Top Amazon Reviews

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Sony A7R IV is heralded by numerous users as a significant upgrade in the A7R camera series. Most users express praise for its impressive 60MP resolution, improved sharpness, enhanced autofocus, long-lasting battery, and superior image stabilization. However, the satisfaction levels vary substantially when discussing the camera's dynamic range, process speed, bulkiness, and the recording limitations posed by the micro HDMI.

Pros

  • 📸 Exceptional image quality linked to its 60MP resolution.
  • 🔍 Improved sharpness and superior cropping flexibility.
  • 🎯 Enhanced autofocus that covers more of the sensor area.
  • 🔋 Outstanding battery performance with longer life span.
  • 🕹️ Substantial internal image stabilization capabilities.

Cons

  • 🌈 Lower dynamic range, especially in shadow recovery.
  • ⏱️ Reduced processing speed due to increased resolution.
  • 🏋️‍♀️ Slightly bulkier and heavier than the previous models.
  • 💿 Immense RAW file sizes, challenging to process and store.
  • 💾 Slower speed of buffer writing to SD cards.
  • 📺 Micro HDMI port's limitations for frequent users.

Should I Buy It?

If you value sharpness, detailed cropping flexibility, and enhanced autofocus, this camera is worth considering despite its shortcomings. However, consider your camera usage frequency, the potential hassle of handling large RAW files, and the slower processing speed before making a decision.

  • My new favorite camera
Style: Body Only Set: New Version - a7R IV
I love this camera! Just upgraded from the A7rii and the auto focus on this is great for event photography, weddings, real estate, etc. Full RAW size files around 102mb a piece so plan to eat up space, but resolution is well worth it. And the batter life is mind blowing! I can literally shoot all day with only two batteries. ... show more

  • A Great Camera So Far
Style: Body Only Set: New Version - a7R IV
The camera is marvelous. The ergonomics, and the weight, are exceptional for my purposes. If you're coming from a dslr, this is the first mirrorless camera I have tried with an acceptable view finder experience. As for the other pros and cons, there are plenty of reviews on the net. As for buying from Amazon, I would suggest looking elsewhere. If by any chance you need to return a camera, get ready for some stonewalling. I returned the AR iii in exchange for this one, and they don't acknowledge receiving the return ( I have proof from UPS), and they only say that it can take over one month to process a return and refund, no information or updates provided. They seem to assume that you are scamming them, and/or they don't have the staff to process the return. So I am still in the dark as to whether or when I will get a refund. This is both surprising and disappointing. If you're going to spend this much on a camera, it would be safer to buy at a dedicated camera dealer. Prime 5 percent back is not at all worth the risk and trouble (other cards can get you as much). They probably shouldn't sell cameras here. Worst experience ever in over 20 years of using this site. ... show more

  • Amazing camera (especially at the current price)..
Style: Body Only Set: New Version - a7R IV
Sony is doing a great job with their magnesium alloy frames. This camera feels like a little tank. I'm not going to re-state what every youtube reviewer said, but I'll point out the flaws.. micro HDMI sucks (for those of you who use this port frequently), lack of 4k60 (at higher bitrates), and the 61MP uncompressed RAW files are huge. That's it for the negatives. AF, the plethora of settings, and build quality are awesome. Oh, and the tilt screen, it's perfect for me (I am one of the few who prefer this over the flip screen). Not a fan of any Sony menu systems (new or old), I much prefer the interface on my previous body, the Canon R6. That camera also had good ergonomics but felt hollow (cheaply made) and overheated a few times while I was shooting photo/video at a wedding. Back to the Sony.. at the current price point, it is an EXCELLENT value. Add to that a large selection of Sony and third party branded lenses, and my friends, you have yourselves a solid ecosystem. ... show more

  • Beware when using 4K video longer than 5 minutes.
Style: Body Only Set: New Version - a7R IV
Great Camera for high resolution digital photography. However, I would strongly advise against using this for 4K video capture. When recording for any length of time more than 5 minutes, the internal temperature monitor trips and shuts the recording down. If you are serious about recording 4k video - consider purchasing a dedicated video recorder ... show more

  • Great camera
Style: Body Only Set: New Version - a7R IV
I really like the camera, already got a second body. My only complaint thus far is that on portraits of people who wear glasses, it focuses on the glasses frame, not the pupils. Have to use manual focus.
