Description

Product description 16 bit game console for GBA SP station 2.7 inches Multicolor LCD; Suport 2--4 persons online playing TV-OUT function;Plug-and- play; Built in 2GB +25000 games or more; Screen Resolution: 408612; multi language support comparable with standard transformer; Li-polymer Rechargeable Battery; Game player, battery and charger included in package Package included: 1.Charger 2.Manual Early Adopters Pick: March 2003. As the world's smallest video-game platform, the Game Boy Advance SP is also the first to use a built-in rechargeable battery. Many decried the original Game Boy Advance's reflective LCD screen and its reliance on external light sources. The Game Boy Advance SP's main feature--optional backlighting--fixes this complaint nicely, but it's the wealth of other features that makes this system so surprisingly good. At first look, you might think the SP is a sleek travel alarm clock. When closed, it's just as tall and deep as the original GBA, but only half as wide. Due to its clamshell design, the screen is always protected from everyday scratches. A small button in the center of the console turns on the backlighting element for use in low-light situations, like in a moving car. The SP comes with a well-designed power adapter that recharges a built-in battery; its prongs fold in for easier storage. Our informal tests found that it takes about four hours to fully charge (you can even play it while it's plugged in and charging), and the battery lasts about 11 hours with the backlighting constantly on--your results may vary. Using the backlighting less often will conserve battery power. With separately sold cables , you can connect the Game Boy Advance SP to other GBAs for multiplayer gaming (above) or to the Nintendo GameCube (below) to access secret levels, exchange data, or use other special features that vary from game to game. The quality of the backlighting is very good. It's bright and clear when looking directly at it, but degraded from other angles. This is only a problem for friends who are watching the screen from over your shoulder. But size, power, and affordability do not come without trade offs. There's no headphone jack here, though Nintendo promises an adapter. The system isn't very loud at its highest volume, and the sound can be turned down to socially acceptable levels. The L and R shoulder buttons are a fraction of the size they were on the GBA, and thus are harder to hit. Also, the reduced size of the SP is slightly less comfortable for adult hands than the GBA, but perhaps more comfortable for smaller hands. The cartridge port placement on the lower part of the console is fine for GBA games, since they are flush with the console body, but older Game Boy Color carts will stick out in a way that takes some getting used to. Open it up and the hinge will seek out a preferred, pre-set angle (about 150 degrees), though you can open it a bit wider or narrower for your own comfort. The hinge stands up well to lateral pressure, and over all, the SP seems just as rugged as its predecessor--which has proven to be very rugged, indeed. --Porter B. • If You Buy From the Right Seller, You Will Be Impressed
Color: Black
Ok, so the gameboys were a bit before my time, and I grew up playing the wii and the ds, but I am greatly impressed with this product. I mainly got this to play the Mother/Earthbound series, since I don’t own a PC to play those games on. I bought from the seller called the Terry Bean Store, my item shipped in a day, and the overall product was in extremely good condition when I got it. I expected some minor scratches and stuff, as noted, but for only paying approximately $60 for this, it was in extremely good condition. It works well so far(model ags 001), and is a lot better than I expected considering the price. I know buying used handheld consoles like the gameboys can be hit or miss(depending on the seller), but this seller seems pretty legit. Also it came a week early! ***also: mine came with a charger(also noted in description of product), and I don’t know if this is normal, but the charger had trouble staying in, but still worked efficiently. I will update this review when I have had this product a little longer. UPDATE: I have had this for a couple months now, and it is GREAT! I ended up replacing the shell and screen to make it brighter, but it would’ve been just fine the way it was. It still charges and does everything good. If you plan on replacing the screen to a brighter one please note that the battery life goes down a bit, but it’s not too bad. Still a really good product and holds up great. ... show more

  • Great quality!
Color: Black
Out of the box, the SP arrived without the packagaing seen here, but it did arrive with the handheld and the charger. The Game Boy itself was the 001 model of the SP, which was in very good condition! A couple scratches on the shell but no dead pixels or anything that would hinder gameplay. The battery life is great so far. Having played it for about an hour each day for the past three days after having charged it fully once. Light illuminates the screen just fine. It plays GBA and GB Color games with no problems. Thanks a bunch! ... show more

  • Received the wrong color. Not "very good" condition.
Color: Black
I ordered an Onyx Game Boy and received a purple one. It was horribly packaged in a box too big with just one crumpled magazine ad inside for protection, leaving way too much room for the contents to slam around. Game Boy was described as "very good", which I'd give it if there weren't a scratch and scuff on the screen. "Good" would have been more accurate. Buttons feel nice and the casing only has some minor scuffs. Maybe I was just mailed the wrong one completely. System and charger both work. A closer look at the box revealed something very interesting. They covered up a sticker that said "Nintendo Game Boy Advanced SP - Cobalt Used/Acceptable" (definitely what I received) with a sticker that said "Nintendo Game Boy Advanced SP - Onyx Used/Very Good" (what I was supposed to receive). ... show more

  • The best GameBoy model I've ever used!
Color: Black
While doing research on various portable game systems with an eye towards homebrew development I eventually settled on this model. And while it's 2002 technology it's what has happened in regards to system emulation and homebrew applications between then and now that make this a very interesting device. This version I've obtained is the last major version of the handheld. It boasts a very compact design while having a much-improved backlighting system for its display. The controls are basic with the traditional GameBoy control config with the SNES-inspired L and R buttons on the corners of the console. And while it uses a proprietary rechargeable LiIon battery it provides around 16-hours of actual use. The backlight for the display cannot be turned off and only has selectable low and high illumination. But what makes this worth grabbing is its backward compatibility with older greyscale (greenscale?) GameBoy titles and the second-generation GameBoy Color: you can simply snap those cartridges in and play. That and did I mention the homebrew scene? With PocketNES (a NES emulator for the GBA) you can dump your existing NES titles using a ROM linker/reader and a compatible flash memory cart and use them with this unit. Or, if you like, you can even find MSX and other emulators as well (yeah, play the ORIGINAL MSX "Metal Gear" instead of the butchered NES version and immerse yourself in a part of Metal Gear Solid's history). So this has huge retro appeal to me. (Disclaimer: DO NOT ask me about ROMs or other devices software for I see nothing and know nothing.) I got mine used for a couple Jacksons (that's 2-times-twenty USD). The original owner even tossed in a Texas Hold'em game and a nice carrying case. So look around and you'll find a decent deal on this retro game system. And do check out the homebrew scene. All of that makes this a very solid gaming device. ... show more

  • Battery was badly used up. Only had 3 hours of play on it before u needed to charge.
Color: Black
It seems to work fine but I had to buy a new battery for it. Only lasted like 3 hours. And we all know most games of the day were meant to be binge played. Didn't like having to be stuck right next to a plug to keep playing a longer harder game or in the case of doom simply having to stop to charge up if I've been rocking out for a while. Can't play a bit at night then not recharge in the morning ornit will poop out before u realise it. ... show more

  • All the memories
Color: Black
This works flawlessly with my old games from when I was a kid. I played Pokemon and Mario and Zelda- all the classics! I love my GameBoy and have crocheted it a special case where I can keep it and my games and charger. I throw the whole thing in my purse and bring it with me so I can play it when I get bored. Sometimes I give it to my younger sister when we hang out and she loves it half to death! The battery is great. I haven't had it for too long so I'm not sure how it'll hold up over the years, but so far so good. The top gets scratched pretty easily and I found that out the hard way before I made it a case. The scratches don't really bother me and they don't affect gameplay but they are unbecoming, and I would urge you to get a case asap with this GameBoy. ... show more
