  • Great pen!
This is a great pen. Firstly, all 3d pens are unreliable due to the nature of their design. Thats why so many reveiws express issues. Some part or another is cheap and doesnt hold up. Many are as good as trash when they become faulty because you cant replace the faulty parts. The heating element in this pen is the faulty part. This is my 3rd 3D pen. The other two brands broke and are not servicable. This unit can be taken apart and serviced if need be. 3D pens and printers are a hobby and like most hobbies it can be rather expensive when breakdowns occur. If you're a hobbyist, spending 30 to 50 bucks every several months to keep producing art is really not that much. This pen is lighter than others which makes it seem a little cheap but the features show the quality. Unlike other pens, this one will feed the plastic 2 ways. First, you can hold the button which stops the feed when released or you can double click the feed button and it will continuously feed which is nice for larger areas. The heating range is adjustable in 1 degree increments which is nice for acheiving the appropriate flow and consistency as each plastic is different and use different temps. The gnome house in the picture i attached was made using wood filament. Overall, its a good pen. Ive only been using it for a few days so i can't speak for its longevity, but ive got about 15 hours on it with no issues. Customer service seems to be readily available for any issues you may have. I am pleased with this purchase. I was happy with the other 2 brands i purchased but they just didnt hold up. Hopefully I can update this at a later time with an equally positive review. Happy printing! ... show more

  • Very capable 3D pen - highly recommend!
I love this 3D pen! I have used it quite a bit and am very pleased with how it works. I originally missed the "double-click for continuous feed" feature, and now I can hardly put it down! For such a compact, light pen, it is amazingly capable. I plan to get a second one as if I wear the other one out, I won't want to have to wait to get the second one haha! ... show more

  • So far so good.
Nice pen. Simple to operate and so far, no problems at all. An LCD screen is the only way to fly. Nice storage box with magnetic closure... These kits get rearranged all the time, and the included "extra heating element" they mentioned was not included, so I purchased one here at Amazon... only a few bucks. I like having a backup. I don't draw with it. I use it mostly for 3D printing work, building objects, repairs, welding plastic pieces together, and so forth. I use a soldering iron, hotmelt glue gun, welder... various things.... but this pen shuts itself down. (Update May '23: The auto-shutdown is driving me nuts. There's no battery so why do it every 2 minutes. All my other tools are hot, and sit there waiting for this pen to reheat. Jobs take more time. Auto-shutdown is actually wasting energy.) When I reach for it, I know I'll have to press a button, sit there, and wait for it to reheat. By the time it does, whatever I'm working on probably cooled and hardened, and that also needs re-heating. This is a constant, and I suspect will be a perpetual annoyance. I'd like to eliminate that 2 minute auto-shut-down. I bet it's as easy as plugging the pen into a computer USB port, and reprogramming one number... I made a spool and holder to fit this pen. It holds about 25 feet of filament. If you know someone with a 3D printer, they can find the STL print files on Thingiverse and print one for you.... Go to Thingiverse dot com and search for "Spool for MYNT3D Pro 3D Pen". One other thing... The provided USB cord is the stiff kind. Not a soft, silicone type.... You gotta fight the weight and stiffness of the cord. The cord is stamped with a 300 volts rating. That might be a little overkill... ... show more

  • I'm hooked on the MYNT3D Pen
I'm writing this review after one day of use and with no basis for comparison, because this is the first pen I have like this. After I buy a few more to review, I may or may not update this as needed. I got this for my mom and decided to "learn" it so I can help her if she needed it. Here's my list of findings: I am giving 5 stars at this point because the pen does what it advertises and comes as described. Personal opinions are denoted as such. TL;DR- I like it. It works. It's as described, and it's fun. Who's this for?: Everybody really. Children, with supervisor, can easily and safely use this pen to get creative. Also, it's not just for art related things, it can be used for household tasks of repairing plastic items. The end result of the plastic is hard and depending on how much filament is used, it can be brittle or tough. I would not call it bendy or pliable. Pros: COST- very affordable, including replacement heads, plastic filament, and 3rd party items EASE OF USE- Extremely easy to use with a small learning curve. Not as dainty or fragile as I thought it would be. Really detailed projects will take practice, but I believe really creative people will have a blast making all sorts of things with this. I did make a 3D box, including "writing" vertically, and it was easy enough as to not require extraordinary patience. I made several written scripts with this and a couple of 2D things like a butterfly and a heart. I'm not creative at all, so I was just making stuff up to see how it worked and show my mom. It was so easy that I kept trying to find things to do. I also ended up fixing the end of a broken plug by filling in the gaps and repairing the break. So it's not just for art that this might be of use to some. QUALITY- Nice box presentation, and most importantly SIMPLE. The pen feels good, it's plastic and light. Even with the squared sides, it does feel comfortable in the hand and does not get in the way of the project. SETUP/OPERATION- I was up and running within 3 minutes of opening the box. It's fairly self explanatory, but there are many videos available to help. Setting the temperature and waiting for warm up took less than a minute, then loading the filament took a few seconds and I was ready to start pushing plastic. I went through the red spool pretty quickly just messing around, but I'm not bothered by that as replacement spools in larger sizes are available. Might have been nice to include more plastic as I'm sure it's not very expensive to produce, but I understand sample packs and residual income. CONS: (disclaimer: I had to think REALLY hard to find cons about this thing) The power cord is short. Too short. You can use a power brick with this, but it has to put out 2A continual power. That's probably more useful depending how close your desk is to a plug. Obviously you can use an extension cord too, but I think the power adapter should have been a touch longer. I do think more filament should be included in the sample pack, but this is understandable since the company would want you to go buy more, so this is just an opinion. I think it should ship with a carrying case. (subjective) ... show more
