Second LG conditioner: The second LG conditioner (replacement for defective one) arrived promptly. My son put it in and it has been performing very well. I am very happy with it. It is quieter than most people have suggested and it is nice and cool in my living room and dining room area. Note that the return was not really a hassle except for repackaging. So far so Good! I had an old 8k btu unit that kept my small house like a meat locker... times were good. Then it died on me one day. In comes a used unit that I bought from a family member. It is one of those expensive floor models that is portable and you put the hose to the window. Supposedly 10 or 13k btu's or something like that. Well, it did not do the job that the old one did, and ran constantly. This year I bought this one hoping that it would take me back to the good times. Let me tell you this does not dissapoint! Better than I even could have imagined. This thing has icicle coming off my dogs tail! My wife wears a carhartt all year long now! In all seriousness this thing has an extremely quiet compressor. I don't know what you get for those $600 dollar ones, but I couldn't imagine getting much better than this. The fan is as loud as the old one.. but hey.. if you are buying a window unit you already expect this. Moving a tone of air is noisy, but you aren't going to hold a conversation in front of it anyway... all you would hear is teeth chattering. My old unit had a shake and shimmy when the compressor turned on and off, wasn't real noticeable, but you could hear it. This one in eco mode shuts the fan and everything right off. And when the fan comes on and off it transitions real slow like. All in all for $200 bucks, I could be happier. Maybe if I had one complaint that I would have is the front grill louvers are a bit chintzy... but seeing it is the cheapest 8k unit and works as good as it it.. I am very happy with it and do not wish for them to upgrade this, which would raise the price. ... show more

    • Quiet, long lasting bedroom air conditioner

Five stars, STRONGLY recommend! I bought one of these in 2007. It lasted 10 years, and ran perfectly for 9 and a half of them. I used it more than the next person, as I ran it in fan mode the clear majority of nights while I slept, and of course used it as an air conditioner when it was warm to hot. When it died I bought another one. It only lasted from 2017-2023, however, I use it a LOT since the Pandemic, as I am working from home, so I consider 6 years to be more than adequate for a period when I am home and working during the day and running it at least in fan mode almost constantly. I bought a third one in 2023. Running perfectly so far, but that is to be expected. Pros: Quiet, effective in cooling a 17X12 room in the northeast. 3 fan speeds. Simple, easy controls. Few bells and whistles, but I don't need any. Cons: It could be a bit more powerful. Its almost perfect for my 17X12 bedroom, but any larger would be a problem. Also, if I lived in a very hot climate like Las Vegas, I might choose a higher BTU. ... show more

Surprisingly this cools much quicker than my LG 8000 btu inverter window air conditioner I have in another room,the inverter window AC is dead silent compared to this LG 8000 BTU ac,while this one is louder its not unbearable by any means it's noticeable though, I'm also impressed because the compressor doesn't THUMP on and off like I hear people complain about with other brands in this $270 price range in fact the compressor makes no noise at all when turning on and off. So for half the price of my LG inverter AC I'm happy... I purchased this one solely because Amazon did not have another 8000 BTU inverter unit at the time. Now for 2 things I definitely don't like but is probably just me being picky and has nothing to do with function one is is you can remove the screen only to clean it but I cannot remove the white casing to get to the front slats to vacuum out every few months like I can with the inverter air conditioner and every other air conditioner I've owned and I also don't like having a vent on the outside top exposed to the run and rain I prefer them only on the sides like the inverter air conditioner. Other than that if $400 it's too much for you to get the inverter AC (which I do highly highly highly recommend them get this one for $270 definitely get this one over any other brand in the same price category I've had them all over 35 years and especially these days when things are not made with the same sturdy quality LG is the way to go with any of their products..... ... show more

I bought this to put in a small 22" window. It fits perfectly. Love the remote. I went up to 8,000 even though the chart recommended 6,000 for my space. Three fan speeds. PLENTY COOL!!! Brrrrrrr. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I have had this unit for 3 months. I live in Texas, so even though we have central air, my bedroom "trapped" heat. I wish I had this when I had nightly hot flashes! I get the best sleep ever. I will say that when the unit is on it's highest fan speed, it is a little noisy. But, I have found that I even like the white noise. ... show more
