Features

  • Model #184681 - RX-5000 Rangefinder, TBR/W with DNA
  • With Pinning, in conjunction with the Leupold Control App, you can remotely place GPS waypoints on digital maps like on X Hunt. Use it to mark property boundaries, navigate through harsh terrain, and easily track and recover downed animals.
  • True Ballistic Range / Wind (TBR/W) technology provides ballistically calculated ranges for extremely accurate shots at longer distances and steeper angles. It can also generate a hold point for a 10-mph wind at a 90-degree angle out to 800 yards.
  • Last Target mode ensures the rangefinder reads the farthest target in the laser's path, so grasses and twigs don't interfere with an accurate range.
  • Long Range Mode boosts the rangefinder's power by gathering laser pulses over several seconds, allowing you to range over 5,000 yards on trees and deer-sized game. That measures out to be almost three miles.

  • Inconsistent Pinning, Not Worth the Price
I purchased this from Optics Planet, but looked at these on Amazon and wanted to provide feedback here: It took me a long time to rationalize the purchase of a $700 range finder. But this one, with it's integration with mapping tools and the idea of using TBR with my rifle and load data, something I do with an app on my phone currently, won out. I got a good price from another online retailer, so I bought it. I had watched a couple of youtube videos, saw where you had to calibrate the compass in the device for accurate readings, I understood that, I deal with that with some of my other items, no problem. So I calibrate, and start ranging targets. The pinning was way off. like 50 to 150 yds off. I recalibrated, it seemed to work, then I tried another target.... way off. I did two sessions of ranging and pinning, I think out of 15 or so ranging attempts, I might've had 2 or 3 that pinned close to what I was aiming at. I made sure I wasn't near any metal, I had clear view of sky (not sure why, that's GPS, but who knows). It was terrible, it was so inconsistent with the pinning, and this was the big feature I bought this thing for. So I called Leupold support. The guy said any metallic type interference could throw the device off. A wedding band. A watch. Magnets in bino holders or metal on equipment you might be holding/wearing (a rifle?). Metallic structures (shooting houses? Ladder stands? Lock ons?), he even said there could be interference from metal in the earth around me. Pretty much anything could cause problems, I just had to keep trying. Not helpful at all. At this point, I was done. I don't see me having to recalibrate the device every time I I take it out to use it, which is what I was having to do, and then there's no guarantee it's going to be accurate. The list of things that could throw it off is endless, according to Leupold. And for a device that costs this much, to be as sensitive as Leupold makes it out to be, and with all the gotchas around the conditions for it to work properly, there's no way its worth as much as they want for it. ... show more

  • Leupold for the win
So far I have only used this rangefinder out to 1000yds, but It’s been flawless. The pin dropping function to OnX works as advertised. It’s a game changer to be able to mark the location of a game animal that has been shot before you change locations. It also helps with marking points and navigating off trail in the mountains. The range finding accuracy is spot on and I have been able to easily get yardages on game animals and my cattle in less than ideal weather conditions. I also used it bow hunting whitetails and was able to range my buck at 31yds from a stand with ease. I am more than happy with this purchase ... show more
