Years ago, the great hero Ortega bid farewell to his wife and child as he set off on a quest to defeat the villainous Archfiend, Baramos. Ortega failed his quest, and Baramos still threatens the world. Now, on their sixteenth birthday, Ortega’s only child is summoned by the king of Aliahan and entrusted with a mission of the highest importance: to take on Ortega’s quest, vanquish Baramos, and save the world. Accompanied by a band of travelling companions chosen in the beginning of the game, players are immersed in a vast HD-2D world full of towns, dungeons, and caves, meet fascinating characters, and fight ferocious monsters in enhanced turn-based battles. I played each of the main Dragon Quest games since the release of the original Dragon Warrior, and I've enjoyed each one. I was curious to try this one given the overall refresh of gameplay, graphics, and story. Overall I'm impressed. Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake provides an opportunity to revisit the iconic Dragon Quest III but in a modern and refreshing manner. The gameplay is smooth and fun, yet retains the subtle quirkiness of the original, such as character movements. The game is smooth, but not overly so, and therefore is reminiscent of an old school RPG. I'm only a couple hours in, but this is a great game which I look forward to playing through to completion. Besides the iconic nature of the Dragon Quest series and the general refresh, there are a number of great features. First is the frequent autosave - this allows you to play the game in smaller increments if desired, without seeking out a designated save point. Second, the customization at the beginning is also nice - this allows you to select among three difficulty levels, the most difficult, Draconian feels reminiscent of the difficulty of old school RPGs which is a great touch and offers a fresh challenge for those revisiting Dragon Quest III. Even better, this may be changed at any point throughout the adventure. Lastly, I really like the bite-sized tutorials sprinkled throughout the adventure. These are instructive, serve as useful reminders, and are seamlessly integrated within the main quest. Overall Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is a nostalgic experience for existing fans of the franchise, but is also a great jumping on point for those new to the series. From the visuals and beautiful crafted art that pays respect to the original, to the quality of life in gameplay mechanics to making the experience more convenient. A new yet familiar adventure awaits! A New Character Class, additional bosses, monsters and enemies that were exclusive to the Game Boy and Super Famicom versions now mixed into this remake, plus new content additions help to shake up combat. This expands to details in combat to make it faster and to items and spells that have been rework and/or new to further the experience. To those who love turn base JRPGs and what to learn about why certain franchises are praised, this is a definite one to check out not just for the history lesson but for the simple yet fun factor as well. New System changes include: - You Now Save in Churches - Change the Difficulty Level - Story Progress and Objectives Bars - Added "Rest" Option to Inns - Equip Up to Two Accessories - Some Personalities Have Different Names - Customization For Characters is Available - Help Feature Available in Adventure Logs From new side content, more side stories and scenes to give the story a more larger context view of events. This helps in only adding to scenes while respecting the original vision in narrative. This is definitely a definitive version worth experiencing. The job system in this game is great. I'm playing Hero-Priest-Warrior-Beast Wrangler. THERE IS MONSTER COLLECTING IN THIS GAME! It's addictive. It's an easy game to pick up and put down. The exploration is amazing. This game respects your time.

Nostalgic. Beautiful. Memorable. I owned the original version on GBC (Dragon Warrior III) & knew I had to get this one when it was announced. It did not disappoint. Ok, so lets start with the good Game play is smooth, graphics on ps5 look amazing. Music is good esp on a 5.1 system. The options for companions is vast & have 4 different visual options You can decide how to powerup your companions You can fastforward thru talking scenes but not skip They added new things to game like collecting monsters to battle in arena, something i dont remember from the original. The bad Main characters are Type 1 Or Type 2. Both look male but type 2 has longer hair The pre-order bonus is a pain, once u put in the code, you have to close the game and re-open it in to get the bonuses out of the treasure chest. Had to google it to figure that out where as most games when u get the bonus, it shows up right away. Companions: So i setup 3 companions, all females. One is a Priest, a mage & a thief. This is where its messed up. I tried many different classes of companions, all female, the ONLY one that has somewhat close to a female voice is the priest. When attacking or being attacked, all the others have male sounds. But then again, not surprised considering the censorship of the game If you can get past the obvious censorship and blatant lackless use of female voices, the games not bad to play but ive only been playing a few hours. ... show more
