    • Hard core snow removal machine-- delivered to your door!
This snow blower is big, powerful, heavy and gets the job done. Just what you need in Colorado. It was delivered on a pallet to my door on a semi-truck with a lift gate. It was relatively easy to assemble. After adding some engine oil and fueling up, I started to work on the driveway. It chewed through 14" of snow without a hitch and saved me hours of shoveling time.     • Wow, what a machine!
I call my Ariens Snow Thrower "The Beast", for a beast it is. Strong, sturdy, and able to be handled by me, a little ol' lady. It has changed my wintertime routine here in the Colorado mountains and offered much independence from being "snowbound" or having to rely on someone to plow my long driveway. It steers well, climbs hills and chomps through three feet of snow. Easy start and runs a long time on a tank of fuel. Thanks Ariens! ... show more

    • Very good unit, with one caveat...
This is a great blower that is crafted in the USA. I believe the engine is a Subaru, but someone might correct me on that. Assembly isn't too bad if you just follow the instructions. Same goes for operation. Don't try to be a cowboy and go all commando without having read the owner's manual. There are multiple switches and shutoffs for the engine alone, and you need to make sure you know where the fuel shutoff, kill switch, and ignition switch are. (I used it for the first time today, but I had to tramp back into the house and try to figure out why the engine wouldn't start. Forgot to turn the gas valve on, but I couldn't see it with all that flat black paint. Operator error. Never assume anything, right?) This is a tough unit that should last most anyone for years. Ariens is basically the Cadillac of home-size snowblowers. But it does have one little bug I don't like: The low speed ratio wants to move the blower way, way too quickly. Even at the lowest speed setting possible, if you are trying to chew through 18-24 inch drifts you'll have to feather the drive control very, very slightly to reign it in or it simply feeds too much, too fast. You'll get a feel for that after the first few minutes if you are running it in heavy snow. I think down the road I'll eventually tear it down and try to replace whatever pulley/belt combo that drives that low speed setting with something more appropriate. I really wonder sometimes if the people who design things on their CAD systems ever take their creations out and actually use them in real world conditions. I see and hear about stuff like this all the time on new equipment. The little engine is great and no complaints whatsoever, although I've just started using it. Good knobby ATV style tires for traction, which is another huge plus. About the only way you could do better here would be to step up to a trac-style drive unit and they cost considerably more. My old blower wasn't that bad mechanically, but it had an awful traction problem that rendered it basically useless. Electric start plus reverse are a nice benefit, although nowadays it's definitely expected on a larger blower like this. The pull start cranks pretty easily if you want to use that instead, and it won't give you a heart attack to start it if you shut it off out in the middle of the yard. This unit costs more than a lot of the competition, but it's much heavier constructed than most. It's a tank, and with good tires that extra weight definitely helps in slippery snow. I'd say pull the trigger and get it if it's something you possibly can spend the extra money for. Definitely worth that extra money when the driveway is full of white stuff and you need to get it cleared out in a hurry. It is unbelievable how much of a beast this thing is in a good way. It is built like a beast, runs like a beast and snow blows like a beast. It is well built and give kudos to Ariens. This is the first Ariens I have ever bought. I always thought Ariens pretty penny they asked for their equipment was not worth it. Boy was I wrong. I love this thing. ... show more
