I bought the 1200W MetalFab and have used it for a week—very impressed. Setup out of the box was straightforward: unpack, connect the laser head, power, and the touchscreen wizard walks you through the basics. The unit feels solid and well-built; cable/connector quality inspires confidence. Performance after a few hours of tuning has been excellent. In handheld mode it produces clean, consistent welds with minimal spatter and very good penetration on mild steel and stainless. I also tested it on thin aluminum with decent results (preparation and parameters matter). The preset material library and the touchscreen make finding a starting point quick, and small parameter tweaks gave predictable, repeatable improvements. Heat input is well controlled — I’ve gotten tidy bead profiles and fast cycle times for repair and small fabrication work. Safety and user features are thoughtful: the interlocks, physical guards, and the UI warnings helped me feel comfortable running it in my garage-shop. Note: it’s a serious tool — plan for decent ventilation/fume extraction and a stable work surface. Minor negatives: there’s a short learning curve if you’re new to laser welding. The unit is larger/heavier than a tiny handheld, but it comes with built-in wheels so it’s still easy to move around the shop. Overall: excellent build quality, reliable beam performance, and great results for small-batch metal work.
