Description

Captain Jason Burke is a man apart, and not just because he's the only of his kind for thousands of light-years in any direction. The changes to his body and to his genetic code have made him faster, stronger, more able to survive in his dangerous occupation...but they've also ensured that he'll never truly fit in with others of his species. He always assumed he would live and die with his crew and never lay eyes on another human again. He was wrong. The mercenary captain learns through back-channel information that Earth may be in danger and, worse, that he may have been a contributing factor. He now faces the choice of ignoring the problem and allowing his own species to fight their own battles or returning to help and risk making the situation worse. Can he just sit idly by while his species faces such a dire threat? Read more

  • Fresh trouble for the Omega Force crew!
Format: Kindle
Ten books into this series and you should know a bit of what to expect by now from the Omega Force universe, and this book does not disappoint. What is it about a good adventure tale with fully developed characters and realistic dialog that is so entertaining? No, it is not a Clancy novel. Yes, the science is a bit loose, and the plot a bit easy to deduce ahead of time, but that makes it a charming bit of military SciFi. Usually by the time a series gets to a tenfold of episodes, the characters fade and the plot lines become paper thin. In many cases it seems like the author become tired of their own creations. It is a pleasure that the Omega Force has reached this point and still feels fresh and involving to the reader. The Human Factor adds several new faces to the familiar cast we have come to follow involved with a plot that is alluring and hints at the future. I am interested to see where the familiar and new characters go from here. Keep 'em coming Mr. Dalzelle! ... show more

  • Another great episode and the start of a new era...
Format: Kindle
The 8th book in the series feels somehow different, more mature, bit more serious and maybe just a bit less funny than the previous installments. To be honest, I had mixed feelings at first, because I felt all my beloved alien characters are being pushed into the background, I felt there is less Jason-Lucky-Crusher action from my favorite unstoppable strike team but in the end I had to admit that the series needed this change of pace and the fresh new faces. After almost two decades in space Jason is more like his alien companions than human and the old jokes about him being the outsider wouldn't have worked so well anymore... So maybe meeting other humans and going back to Earth, make him feel conflicted again about (his) humanity was just the right thing. This new direction opened up many possibilities and that big fat bomb Josh dropped at the end certainly ensures that the next book(s) won't be boring to say the least! Although I'm not sure I like all the new characters, especially Carolyn, they'd been bairly just introduced, so I'm sure we'll see more shades of their personality in the follow up. This episode opens a new chapter for the team, for Jason, introduces new friends and threats but brings back old friends and allies as well... All in all, I have to say it is another great addition to the series and was well worth the long waiting! ... show more

  • Almost Imposssible to put Down Despite Some Glaring Flaws.
Format: Kindle
While "The Human Factor" never gets boring and keeps moving (always a good thing) it leaves many threads undeveloped. Will Jason's new armor withstand an attack from a "slug slinger"? Won't it just bounce off Lucky? (Spoiler alert) And just WHY is Lucky p.o'd at Jason, and why doesn't Jason ever explain why he punches Lucky? (Bad idea, even when completely enhanced). Plus, it's just not clear why certain forces and parties reverse positions (don't want a COMPLETE spoiler!) Still, the basic premise of several new villains including some from Earth gives it a real twist. And, of course, the ending is both a shock and somewhat predictable. It's not the best in the series and has some holes, but it's definitely a good read and...hard to put down (always a good thing) ... show more

  • The boys are back in town.
Format: Kindle
I was looking forward to seeing what happened to earth after the last time Jason was there to thwart an attack orchestrated by the duplicitous android Deetz. And this story doesn't disappoint. It seems that in thier paranoia they have fallen under the influence under some nasty aliens under the guise of benevolence, offering them advanced technology and weapons. But thier help comes with strings attached. They want the drive system and weapons from the ancient Traveler's ship that Jason shot down. And they are not above the subjugation and enslavement of the human race to get it once the leaders of earth realize that the Ull are not as benevolent as they were lead to believe. The series introduces interesting new human characters and you get to see how the other characters perceive him through shifting POV, warts and all. Some people may not care for it but I found it refreshing and fun. And Jason is coming to realize the consequences for tampering with his DNA, the fact he doesn't age normally, if at all. Also the likelihood that those changes could've been passed on. But that revelation will be explored in the next book. And I for one can't wait. ... show more

  • Another Fun Romp!
Format: Kindle
Another great book in the Omega Force series! I love this space opera series and all the characters! Did not even notice a change in the flow, when the author switched up some of the perspectives so we could get a view of our hero from another's POV! This started an interesting new story line, and I can't wait to see how it plays out in future books. But this book was good all on it's own with a satisfying ending...for now. ;) You can keep writing as many of these as you like, Joshua Dalzelle! They are just as fun for me to read as they are for you to write! ... show more

  • Major changes
Format: Kindle
Love, love, love this series. I think this is the best volume yet, although it still needs those before it. This volume contained many changes and new elements and characters to help fill many more volumes for a very long time. I can see so many new directions for stories. I hope they will be written. As long as they are, I will keep buying them. Please, Joshua Dalzelle, space opera (I hope that term is suitable to you) author extraordinaire, keep them coming. ... show more

  • Good read.
Format: Kindle
This was a good read and the only thing that I had a problem with was the 17 years that went missing in the book. In the beginning the crew was split up for 17 years and maybe I read it wrong but what happened in those years, that's a long time. Other then that it was Bach to its usual harass self and was great. ... show more
