  • Wonderful!
Format: Hardcover
This is a serious cookbook for kids who really want to learn to cook. And not just a recipe book. It’s an instruction manual that starts with lots of kitchen basics and continues with great recipes with clear instructions and kid reviews. Throughout the book are sidebars with all sorts of interesting tidbits, like two ways to cook bacon, an avocado primer, intro to herbs, how to shred lettuce, flipping cornbread out of a pan, using parchment paper, how to frost a cupcake, to mention just a few. It’s really informative, beautifully laid out and so colorful! It begs you to turn the page and discover the next thing. Anyone who reads and cooks through this book will be comfortable and capable to work in the kitchen and have fun in the process. Kudos to America’s Test Kitchen! ... show more

  • Great recipe book for kids
Format: Hardcover
I was looking for something unique for my 10 yr old granddaughter's birthday and found this cookbook. It was a hit! It is well organized with lots of precooking information and instructions for the beginning chef, fun, easy, delicious recipes, and the illustrations are beautiful. My granddaughter loved it and was immediately looking through recipes to make with her sister and parents. It is a great gift for that child who is in between childish toys and teen electronics and accessories. And it is a gift that will get the family involved in something together rather than everyone staring at a screen by themselves! ... show more

  • Perfect gift for our 8 year old who loves cooking
Format: Hardcover
We got this for our 8 year old daughter who loves cooking. She wants to help in the kitchen more than we let her, so she had taken to waking up early to make us breakfast. It started as a plate of nuts and fruit, and lately turned into scrambled eggs with toast and we'd jump out of bed when we smelled something cooking to make sure she didn't burn herself. She loves the book, and we are 100% thrilled with it. I LOVE that it's all kid-focused. Kids are featured in the pictures doing the cooking, which is really empowering. There are many side-bars and boxes that provide extra information about modifying the recipes or explain why something is the way it is. We read the recipes as part of her reading homework, and the ingredient lists are teaching her about fractions. As someone who has taught cooking and nutrition classes to adults, I love the sections on healthy eating that teaches about "MyPlate", the part about different knives and how to use them, and the first chapter about cooking tools, ingredients, measuring, conversions, etc. I also appreciate that this kids cookbook isn't just grilled cheese and chicken nuggets. Recipes are rated as beginner, intermediate, or advanced, and there is incredible variety - everything from small items for one person to "friends and family"-sized main dishes, beverages, desserts, sides, breakfast, and snacks. I really think there's something for everyone here. This is a book that our children can grow with for many years. If you plan to really teach your elementary-age child about being confident in the kitchen, this is a great book to guide you. If you have a teenager who wants to do it all themselves, this would also work. We've made about 12 recipes and so far they've all been tasty. That gives me confidence that the authors really did their homework to make sure the recipes taste good and go over well with kids! If your child doesn't seem to like the recipes that are unfamiliar to them, just keep making new things and trying them. When kids are a part of making a dish, they are WAY more likely to try it and like it! ... show more
