Description

The SILVA 100BC front reading compass with a solid bracket that enables various mounting alternatives, including on the headlining. It has a main steering scale on the horizontal part of the compass rose and direct reading on the vertical edge. This makes the compass ideal for boats with a sitting as well as a standing helmsman. The integrated illumination makes night navigation easier. The built-in compensator allows you to adjust the compass when it is disturbed by a magnetic deviation.

I researched 30+ Marine Compass models for my new boat in this price range. This Silva 100BC model has the most elegant and useful design. I was very excited to get Silva 100BC mounted in time for my first voyage. Instead, I was very disappointed: 1. Picture on Amazon product page shows compass rose with " Silva Sweden" on the dial. For the price of this instrument, I figured I was getting a quality, Swedish made product. When I got compass out of the box, there was the Made in China sticker on the housing. 2. Plastic housing and mounting bracket are cheap, flimsy, paper thin. I doubt this housing would last a 30 minute run in moderate chop without cracking. 3. The Lubber Lines were hopelessly skewed relative to the compass rose. Who ever assembled this unit had no concept that the Lubber Lines were in any way related to the Compass Rose. Useless for navigation , poor quality, Defective workmanship. I own a number of Swedish made fishing reels and rods, very high quality stuff. I own a Silva , made in Sweden , wrist compass, had it for 10+ years. I am extremely disappointed that Silva has degraded their manufacturing quality so. ... show more

I own three Silva compasses. Each one is defective and doesn’t have a clue where North is.
