  • Really good graphics card
I paired this graphics card with a 9900x and for the past 6 months has been doing me quite good. The card gets high frame rates in 1440p gaming. I would say its good value even with the new ryzen gpus. Even in a hot room most ive seen my card reach is 60 degrees C so i would say overall the cooling is adequate if you have enough fans in your build. The card itself though is quite big and is triple slot card so make sure to check measurements of your case and the card to make sure they work together. ... show more

  • Solid GPU
This GPU is MASSIVE, I mean absolutely vast, huge, enormous, gigantic. Be warned if you have a small case. It has two switches on it, a silent mode / OC mode toggle and another switch that can select one of two lighting schemes or no lights at all. The photo is of this thing installed, it comes with an anti-gpu sag (because it is so big) stand which I don't think I needed but installed anyway, it can just be seen in the photo. The benchmark screenshot is from userbenchmark with OC mode on. I toggled it into silent mode for personal use after so for all other observations that are with silent mode on. I'm not sure if it's just my card or this class of card that is performing at an outstanding level. When sitting in windows with light work like watching a video and browsing the internet the GPU temps are 46C (with new drivers temps sit at 36C at idle (9/23/23)) with a junction temp of 55C. Unfortunately for my setup, 1 4k 144hz monitor and 1 1080p 144hz monitor both plugged in via display port the card pulls close to 100 watts at idle (with new drivers power draw is as low as 18 watts at idle(9/23/2023)). It should not do this, it should be closer to 20 watts. There is chatter out there on this issue and AMD thinks they can fix this with a future driver update. Because it's a new launch I will not ding it for this flaw, but if it hasn't been fixed in 3-6 months I would consider it to be a problem. Temps underload can be seen in the final screenshot. GPU temps peak at 69C with a junction temp peaking at 82C after about 10 minutes of intense usage in a game. It is clear that the 7900XTX reference cooler issue is not present with this card and the cooler works just fine. Overall this card is not cheap. But this thing about it is, you can buy this product now at MSRP when its closest competitors, 7900XTX and 3070ti, you can not buy unless you want to pay scalper prices. So it's not great value, but it's not terrible value and importantly you can actually buy it. Given the state of the GPU market in the last year or so this is a huge improvement and this card gets a 5 star review for excellent performance and being buyable. ... show more

  • Crashes constantly on even the simplest games
Helldivers 2: Crashed randomly for the first month of the game. If was a known issue so I trying working around it. Drivers kept getting updates, kept crashing. Turned off global illumination and it slowed it down for a couple weeks, updated driver and it started crashing again, underclocked it 400mhz, spent hours playing with settings, still crashes above medium Balatro: like graphically the simplest game I can think of, crashed on startup the first 3 times I played. I don't remember how I fixed it Stardew valley: Crashed 4 times back to back after launching on the wrong screen, clicked on screen it popped up on, driver crash The card has some insane coil whine, at least once I turned down the frequency it quieted down These are some of the examples of my favorite games I can't trust to stay running, the only game that hasn't crashed on me can be played in a web browser Edit, also horizon forbidden west crashes I have a 1000w evga psu, I have a 5800x3d, my pc never crashed with my old 3070, I did fully remove all the old drivers. I wish I had tried to play more of my favorite games in the first month return period instead of just thinking helldivers was a one-off. At the level I've had to turn down my frequency to quiet it down I might as well put my 3070 back in. At least it 1 star for decent amount of vram ... show more

  • Great card, some loud coil whine
Impressive performance and price. Well built, great driver support. Quiet cooling, but coil whine us the worst of the pack at certain power draws. Nonissue with closed back headphones.

  • Coil Whine
It is a great card, has amazing performance, and its fins are quiet, but the coil whine is obnoxious. Its saving grace is the fact you can not hear the whine through headphones, and I mostly game with a pair on so it's not noticeable in most use cases really. It also only really starts to happen over 160 watts of power draw, and it gets less annoying the higher the power draw after that. Seems to change as the card heats up. ... show more

  • Coming from Asus OC GTX 1080 TI
Major difference coming from 1080 TI, frame rates doubled / triple or more at least, even with all the eye candy on max in all the games that I play @ 1440p / 165 hz. Icarus, The Forest, RDR2, ect rarely do the fans ramp up, I gave up on NV after they fed the Miners and spat upon gamers. Have played around 12 or so different games some old some new and hasn't crashed yet. No apparent "thermal throttling" vapor chamber BS like others said. 1440p + max settings + 165hz display and running 120+ FPS on most games is bliss. i5 -13600K Asrock z690 Riptide ddr4 @ 4400 7900 XT Hellhound GEN 4 NVMe @ 2TB EVGA G3 850 GOLD Cons: Its a shame that the cost factor of the AMD AM5 CPU / mobo / ddr5 ram is double what I paid for the intel / ddr4 / mobo or I would've been team RED 100%. ... show more

  • Great, but check AMD software settings before playing.
The performance is great. I do recommend checking the AMD software for 'zero rpm' fan setting and make sure it is turned off. This setting can cause a number of issues in different games, including black outs or complete shutdowns, and it is enabled by default. This is due to it making the GPU fans not spin until a certain temperature threshold and then start spinning. Despite this issue, everything else has been great. ... show more
