  • Excellent slicer - essential for serious food dehydratingb
Size: Set of 1
p.s. WATCH VivianRogers6623 YouTube channel on how to put together the “OXO V Mandoline Slicer” - she makes it clear. EDIT: Great slicer -5 stars for that. Deserves 1?0 stars The instruction manual deserves 1 star. Preferably 0 stats. I bought the .4 blade slicer. The pictures are not of that model. Looking for the same square hole in your slicer’s frame? Doesn’t exist. Very frustrating to figure out how to reassemble the (d*mn’) thing after it falls in the floor. Or how to put it back tigether after washing because tgere is a super sharp blade involved! One part is said by the manual to slide in vertically. But it only fits if slid in horizontally. You get the picture . I am a little nervous about attempting to change blades until I have mastered assembling it. Disassembly, however, is a piece of cake! This is the best mandolin slicer I’ve ever had. And I’m coming to realise that it is absolutely the best one for the job when it comes to slicing food to be dehydrated. The sharpness of a mandolin slicers blades is pretty critical. These are as sharp as they get! The slicer comes fully assembled in its box. The instruction booklet wasn’t so great. It was pretty disappointed with it when I had to figure out how to put the parts back together when deci her fell on the floor unexpectedly and its removable parts flew off. If I have good pictures, I can put things together in a snap. These graphics are printed clearly, but they are not instructive enough when the text is so brief. However, if when sits down, it looks at things for a while you “get it.” •••Warning••• Yeah, the instructions say that the blades are very sharp. They say not to touch them. OK. I worked with sharp leather knives for years, Jerry rarely ever cutting myself. I never badly. As the instruction booklet does not tell you how to clean the blade other than that it’s dishwasher safe, and I did not intend to put it in dishwasher, I was very carefully running a dish cloth with soapy water over it. Bad idea! I will not touch that blade again. I’ve got a very large bandage on the end of my finger and the finger is very insulted. Loads of blood. I put red pepper on it which stings. Either red or black pepper is a pretty good coagulant. The moral of the story is that I discovered from the instructions how to remove the blade in its plastic frame. The essential thing to know is how to remove the frame with its blade, and to only touch the plastic framework. And once you know to do that, you’ll never get cut! Well, and using a Kevlar glove is pretty important too. Yeah, I know, for most people it’s another expenditure. But I am now using the Kevlar glove on my right hand when I’m slicing things. And it WILL prevent spilled blood, even for the most careful folks. A slicer should be very sharp and it should last a long time, in my humble opinion. I think this will live up to both of those expectations. However, in order to do so, one needs to develop new hands to keep one’s fingers from getting cut on the blade. ... show more

  • Great product. One of those items that you want to have 2 of just for the heck of it!
Size: Set of 1
Extremely easy to use and does everything I needed it to do. I even sliced a Turkey thigh on this slicer on the second setting and they came out perfect for stuffing in a Burrito or even for a sandwich. Easy to clean and store until needed.

  • Oxo mandolin a good choice
Size: Set of 1
Easy to use and clean. I enjoy getting nice even slices much better than I usually get slicing with a chefs knife. I use the thickest slice setting and it seem that some might prefer wider adjustment options, but not a problem for me. I recommend this item.

  • A well-designed slicer that is good for what you expect, and then some.
A mandoline slicer is a must for an OCD cook like me. The perfect slices you see in cooking shows cook evenly and quickly and look great on the plate- but they're impossible with a knife. Oxo has always provided good, solid kitchen gadgets, and their track record in my kitchen drove me towards this unit when I began the hunt for a mandoline slicer. Upon unpackaging, this slicer seems a bit daunting. There are (2) extra blades in a seperate case along with a spacer to go with the food holder, and an additional (3) blades are housed in the unit itself along with the (1) installed slicer blade (a total of 6 blades included). All fit nicely within their respective slots / containers, and you can't shake any of the spares loose. The instruction manual is pretty good. Good diagrams with supporting text. It has a bit of a learning curve (pages titled "How to Cube" require you to reference "How to Change V-Blades" and "How to Change Cubing Blades"). Also, each blade is color coordinated with the thickness know along the side, which matches the manual. This assures that your cubes will always be, well, cubes! Your first and most basic slicing is simple. Food + food holder + back and forth motion = perfect slices (my first-cut items were a bell pepper and an apple). More complex operations require some reading- unlock, open food track section, open cubing / julienning blade section, remove / install cubing / julienning blade, install slicer blade, close up, unlock. But again, the slices were perfect (my next item was an onion- cubed perfectly within about 10 seconds). The crinkle blade adds some drag (USE THE FOOD HOLDER) but results in beautiful food. The cubing feature alone is well worth the price. The food first passes over the vertical sawtooth blades and is scored, and then each subsequent pass a 90 degree turn scores the food in the opposite direction and the slicing blade seperates perfect little cubes from the food. Repeat until the end. Chopping an onion like your favorite Food Network star is complex and often leaves a good chunk of food un-choppable. This baby makes little pieces of 90% of the onion. Nice. Cleaning is fairly simple. A stainless model would be nicer dishwater-safety, but longevity of the product is my goal, so I hand-washed after use. The dishwasher is said to dull blades anyways, so it's better to just take it for a dunk in some warm soapy water. Rince and let air dry on a towel and bam- you're good to go. A storage container for the whole setup would be nice, but hey - this will probably remain on my counter anyways. I can't imagine a meal that wouldn't benefit from use of the mandoline. One or two uses of this unit and you'll be an expert. Also, you can chop everything in about 5 minutes and put it all in little bowls mis-en-place style and host your OWN cooking show. ... show more
