First let me say... Filling a chamber with negatively charged ions dates back more than 4,000 years, to civilizations well before the Egyptians. It was used for health benefits both physically and mentally. Secondly... Finally a device from China with an extra long cord! Thirdly.... This is not a 400$ negative ion, ozone creation, hepa, UV-C model, so don't expect it to act like one. This does exactly what it's expected and designed to do. I've had a large sized industrial Orek model for decades, so I know what to expect, not to mention being an electrical engineer for 35 years. For those who say it doesn't seem to be working, put your nose directly in the output breeze and you will smell the ionization, a very distinct scent. It's not from the UV-c, it's not from the small carbon filter. The difference is like catching the scent of a nearby chlorinated pool, it is unlike the air commonly found. People that still use there grandma's old fashion blenders, you know that odor you get from the motor after a few seconds, that's from the sparks it makes between the carbon brushes and the stator, its not ozone or ions, but it makes a specific scent. If your not getting a distinct scent from your device, and it smells like any other blown fresh air, then the Ionizing part needs to be troubleshooted. If you hear crackling noises or spark noises coming from it, you need to clean it, honestly check it every couple weeks because if you live in a very dusty, highly used environment, it will collect particles quickly, it only takes a few seconds to look. Always make sure you turn it off and unplug it at the back, it uses high voltage. When you pull the big collector out from the center, do it evenly, straight out, no leaning at all. My Orek ionizer used 12 thin strings of wire, this one only uses 4, so obviously not as powerful, but it does the job its designed to do for smaller rooms. If your looking for power and quicker results, spend over 250$. Never stick your fingers inside the device when the collector is out, you could damage the wires. I noticed someone posted they tested there's with an Ion measuring device and it read "0", that's because this only puts out less than .06, or your Ionizer is broken. This one is great for small rooms if you place it properly and just let it run, it may take days before you notice any change, but you will. Otherwise if you leave your windows open all the time or have constant traffic in and out of the home, better go for the budget breaking 400$ models. It also helps greatly if you have a home heating system that does "Fan Only", which recirculates the air thru your heating systems filter. Since negative ions attach themselves to the dust particles in the air, making them heavier and easier for the filter to catch and they will also sink to the floor, so using your floor intake vents will also help to recirculate the fresh air and filter out more particles, reaching the rest of the house evenly. Also a good idea to dust and vacuum (With Hepa Filter) the area around the ionizer to help get rid of the particles it already neutralized. This Ionizer works on the same principle as those little battery operated ionizer air fresheners for refrigerators, just have to give it a proper amount of time to do its job, set it and forget it. The UV-C light and carbon filters are just added bonuses for the harmful bacteria, icing on top of that fresh air cake. If I have any concerns or problems with my new Ionizer, I will come back and do an update. Also I would leave the blue "night light" off if its used near where people are trying to sleep, blue LED light will cause your body to not feel sleepy and will prevent you from getting a full nights rest due to the chemical reactions it causes inside you. At first I thought they weren't working. If used in larger room, they work, but they take a few days to notice a difference. My son had these in his basement. It smells so fresh and clean down there that everyone asks about it. Including me. That is why I bought 2. Nothing else has worked to get the cat smell out of my living room area. That is one of the toughest things. We have cleaned and tried it all. Including other air purifiers. Put two of these in our living room area. After about a week, we now have no cat smell. We are now putting one in my girls bedroom. If it takes out the cat smell from there, we will be getting a lot more for rhe whole house. Can't recommend these enough. They are great. Oh, and if you get a rattle sound, its not broke. The filter is not paper but metal. Needs to be wiped smooth about once a week. I saw a review where the person said it was broke upon opening and it made a rattling sound. It wasn't broke. Its the metal filter. Lol take time to read rhe instructions. This air purifier does a lot. From UV cleaning, ozone and negative ionizer. Its great. Dont be fooled by its size. Oh and its not a fan so dont expect it to blow like wind through your room.:) it works just fine and is not too loud like my other air purifier which are now no longer in use but obsolete because I am only using these from now on.

Works great! It takes away the bad odors that pets leave! I was surprised that it also got rid of the smell of smoke. The best part is that you don’t have to replace the filter! I really enjoy my new air purifier.

This review is of the OION Technologies B-1000 Permanent Filter Ionic Air Purifier Pro Ionizer with UV-C Sanitizer, New (Black). The observations I make here may apply to other air purifiers that use similar technology. Short version (TL;DR): it works very well for my purpose (eliminate cat-pee smell upstairs). Background: we converted our upstairs guest bathroom into a cat-litter box room. We have four cats, and we're trying to minimize the inappropriate pee-ing by providing a cat-litter box on the 2nd floor (the other 4 cat-boxes are in the basement). The cats have really taken well to the upstairs cat-litter box, but the smell is a problem. If we don't deal with (empty) the box EVERY SINGLE MORNING, the accumulation of cat-urine creates a cloud of cat-pee smell that permeates the upstairs and wafts down the steps into the main floor. Doing the cat box every morning HELPS, but by night-time, well, it's not quite enough. I tried a near-HEPA filter blower in the bathroom (where the cat box is located), but it didn't seem to help at all. Maybe a *TRUE* HEPA filter would have done the trick, but I'm a) skeptical and b) unwilling to commit to buying a rather expensive set of filters every month. So I checked around looking for air purifiers that use other (non-filtration) technology, specifically ionization. The theory is that the electrical apparatus inside the device will put a charge on the offensive-smelling particles and then stick them onto the washable element inside the device using that electrostatic charge. This actually does work. Many of the ionization-based air purifiers *also* claim to put ionized particles into the air of the room, gripping onto airborne particles, making them heavier and causing them to drop to the floor. I can't speak to whether that works. I am skeptical. They also claim to make the air smell fresh, like just after a thunderstorm. There might be some truth to that, but it's a "don't care" for me. I'm looking first and foremost to neutralize the cat-urine smell upstairs. As I said, this review is of the OION Technologies B-1000. I made the purchase based on other reviews that indicated that this unit ACTUALLY WORKS. Guess what? IT ACTUALLY WORKS! Primary observation: the bottom line is that the OION Technologies B-1000 unit effectively reduces the cat-urine smell to ZERO. The effect is noticeable inside of a couple of hours. The unit is located inside the guest bathroom, perched on top of the toilet tank. The cat-litter box is on the floor to one side of the toilet, in front of the sink. It's a small bathroom. The door stays open so the cats can come and go. Limitations: if I do not clean out the cat box for more than two days, the smell will again be noticeable. The air purifier can only do so much. But as long as I keep up with the cat box, it does very well. Truth be told, I *should* clean the box every day - the clumps of pee and poo in the box *have* to be making the toilet experience unpleasant for the kitties, and I don't wish that on them. So as long as I do my part often enough, the OION Technologies B-1000 does keep up quite well. Yes, I'm repeating the name of the product rather often. I'm trying to help with searches, and cut-n-paste is my friend. Don't let that put you off. Other observations: the power supply puts out 600 milliamps at 12 volts, so the unit can properly be called "low-power." That's 7.2 watts (figure 7.5, allowing a bit for conversion from 120VAC to 12VDC), so it's not going to break the bank from the power usage. The built-in fan is very quiet, even on the high setting. It's *NOT* going to circulate the air in room well enough to replace a fan or air-circulation blower. It's good for eliminating cat odor. For *my* purposes, that's enough. If you want a powerful blower or fan to circulate air in a room, this is NOT what you're looking for. The front-panel light can be turned on or off. When ON, it is a fairly bright blue light. Good night-light. I left mine ON for a week or so, but now I have it turned OFF. It's not annoying - it's in a bathroom down the hall...not going to keep us awake at night...I just don't need a night-light in that room. Cleaning the electrostatic element: press the button on the front of the unit, and the fan will stop and the top will hinge open. Fully open the top and the handle for the charged element is right there. The element slides straight up and out. It's about ten inches long, looks like an aluminum (aluminium?) charged element built into a plastic carrier. DO NOT IMMERSE IN WATER. Spray a bit of multipurpose cleaner on a paper towel (or similar) and wipe down the aluminum element. After days of run-time, you'll see a gray film on the element. When it comes off on your paper towel, it will be BLACK. That black stuff is the concentrated smelly particles that you didn't want to be smelling. Probably not a good idea to let it get on your skin. Anyway, wipe down the charged element, all four sides, make sure it's dry, and then slide it back down into the main unit. The charged element is "keyed" - the black plastic of the carrier has a tab built into it (at the bottom) so it can only go into the main unit one way. There are electrical contacts on the bottom of the charged element that have to be oriented correctly for the charging and ionization magic to work, so it needs to go back in correctly. When you have it oriented correctly, it will just slide right in. No effort. Close the top and when it clicks shut, the fan will come back on. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Effective for *my* purpose. If it doesn't fail for a few months, I'm happy. If it goes a year and then fails, I will be looking to replace it with a like unit. Probably buy several so I have enough replacements to last a long time. Hope this all helps you make your decision. Regards, -- Don Davis Update: bought the unit in May, 2019.
