I bought this unit in 2019 because I saw it used on Oak Island. Using it is more than just fun, it is REWARDING because you WILL FIND metal with it! What causes me to brag about and praise it now is that I thought I broke it leaving in my garage (getting too hot). I was wrong. The screen was not damaged. It was my new fancy sun glasses (Costa) that made the screen look damaged! I used to wear Rayban Aviators when I went boating, or kayaking to remote beaches to metal detect. So I corresponded by email with Minelab customer service (multiple notes) and shipped off in the crate I built shown in the photo above to protect it from shipping damage. Minelab's Customer Service rep contacted me this morning and informed me, "it works fine." CONSIDER the exceptionally HIGH ETHICS of such a notice and the expertise of Minelab's service facility in Aurora, IL! IMHO, you but Minelab equipment here on Amazon with COMPLETE FAITH that (once again) Amazon has screened and provided an EXCELLENT product and manufacturer for we customers. I use this coil more often than the stock 11 inch coil on my CTX 3030. I hunt the beach at low tide and there is limited time to hunt the waterline during low tide before the tide starts coming in. Enter the 17 inch coil. I can use a fast sweep and cover about 7 square feet per second. The coil must be used at a lower sensitivity than the stock 11 inch coil. This is normal for any large coil. For example on the beach in saltwater sand I use Manual 25 sensitivity with the 11 inch, and 19 to 20 with this 17 inch coil. I am not missing any targets due to the lower sensitivity. In fact I have found numerous tiny targets using a fast sweep. Example would be an earring post lock. The depth coverage is great, sometimes too great, since I end up digging pretty deep when I wish I could have skipped that target. I hunt gold jewelry and use target ID but I ALWAYS dig items that I'm sure are not pennies, dimes, or quarters. The target ID feature works exactly as it does on the 11 inch coil and with the same accuracy. Optionally one could skip the zinc pennies and dig the dimes and quarters and come up with silver jewelry as well- but I skip those things. Using this coil requires a harness to balance the extra weight. It is much heavier than the 11 inch coil. At risk of providing non-relevant info : I use a customized Minelab harness with the "L" strut removed, and I can hunt for about 6 hours before my shoulders start to hurt. Without a harness I would be done in two hours. I have about 300 hours using this coil and am pretty happy with it. Expect the coil cover to last for about 250 to 350 hours on beach hunting before replacement of the cover is required.

This is my very first review ever. The reason is not only the performance of this state-of-the-art detector that has outperformed every White’s I have ever owned but the outstanding customer support. I just returned from a long planned vacation in which my brother (who used my old White’s) and I spent a week in Savannah Georgia metal detecting and fishing. After the first day the screen of my CTX3030 went dead. I called Mom belabor and got Jamie Moeller. She shipped me a new CTX over night and I shipped off my unit for repair. It was ready for me before I returned home. Minelabs is a classy organization that will get all my future business.

So far no treasure chests, but I've found 11 pennies, 2 nickels, a matchbox toy car, a toy motorcycle, several screws, several nails, a few bits of aluminum siding scraps all on my 1/6 acre property... The coins seem to have been deposited during the great "loose change" storm of 1975 that hit my area...

Pricy, but only serious detectors are going to invest in the CTX anyway, and this is fantastic for trashy areas, overgrown or bushy places. I have already tried mine out on narrow curb strips in the area, filled with trash, clad, and the rare treasure. Places I've gone through numerous times, and am finding fresh targets everywhere. Protective skid cover is included, so only buy one if you think you'll need a spare.
