Love this fine line, all metal chalk box. It's head and shoulders above the quality of the chalk line boxes currently available in the big box and lumber stores in my area that all seem to have plastic gears, this one has metal gears. Filled, not overfilled with chalk, ran the line out and reeled it back in twice and it works flawlessly. Initially seemed a little stiff to crank but quickly smoothed out and became easier. String has little stretch and snaps a nice clear line. I'd say this is an excellent value for your money when compared to other premium brand chalk boxes, you know the ones. I have literally layed out miles of walls with these when building skyscrapers. I wouldn’t buy any chalk box without an aluminum gear ever again. The plastic gears that most chalk boxes have get too caked up with chalk after a while and then it’s more difficult for them too spin against one another which causes them to strip out. solid chalk box. string sucks though. c'mon Milwaukee. put a better string in it. all your stuff is very expensive, I think you can afford to put better line in it.

Broken first time use. String would not pull out and when it did, reel would not roll it in. Took it apart and found an extra string grommet twisted up in the mechanism. Now I have red Charlie stains all over my Carhartt bibs. Shame on Milwaukee . My company is thinking about transitioning from dewalt to Milwaukee. Hmmmmmm ... show more
