The pen is functional. Excellent tool for quick measurement and taking short notes. This is not the caliper to make precise measurements while designing something and is not a substitute for real high precision tools. The pen is not a substitute for a real pen as well, as it's heavy for such a task and not very convinient to hold. I use it it for what I described above and I'm really happy with it. The pen makes an excellent gift as well. If I need, I'll buy it again and I recommend it to my friends as well. The pen is more for engineering inclined and/or for inventor type of minds and people. A normel ;-) and ordinary person will not aporeciate its value. No offence for anyone, just my own observation.

I was nervous about the quality of the product when I bought it, because it seems like something that would be easy to make with poor tolerances and shoddy materials if someone was looking to make a quick buck. I was completely wrong to be nervous, the materials are excellent and the construction is spot on. The slider fits extremely well on the pen, and the pen is a great weight and has an excellent finish. Highly recommend, only wish I'd bought it for myself and not as a gift.

Over priced for how cheap it feels. The pen doesn't write well and even though it says it's all metal it feels like plastic. Also the marking should have been filled with black to make it easier to read.

What's not apparent from the product pictures is this pen's mirror chrome finish. The reflections are very distracting when trying to read the caliper scale. The finish can be dulled using very fine grit sand paper, but it's easy to wear through the chrome to the underlying copper (maybe brass?), especially along the angled edges. The caliper slide is sloppy and reads 0.2-0.3mm when fully closed. Again, it can be sanded down to a proper value if done carefully. I took up most of the slop in the slide by lining it with adhesive PTFE tape (see B000FMUPBM, only needs a couple inches). Be careful not to lose the tiny spring if you take the slide off. The pen has a flattened hexagon profile and is tail-heavy which makes finding a comfortable writing grip a little challenging. The tail weight is only partly due to the caliper - the retract mechanism is all brass, except for the externally visible button and retainer nut. The retract doesn't use the mechanical features on the ink cartridge, but its own pin with grooves machined into its side. The cartridge-contacting part of the mechanism is an extension tube that looks like it would accept the skinny disposable pen tubes, or possibly longer (than comes with the pen) wide cartridges if the extension were shortened or removed.

I purchased this for my brother, who is an engineer, as a part of a gift for being my best man. I also purchased one for myself. We both think the pen is very unique and and the measurement too is very useful. Since it is made almost entirely of metal the pen has some weight to it and the shape feels good in your hand. My brother loves the pen and so do I. 5/5

This is a great idea, I loved it & it worked well for a few weeks. It is a great product if you are careful with it. Perfectly compact, easy to use. Unfortunately, I wanted it for work & I work in tough conditions. The clip doesnt hold very well. I bent the clip, but bent it back. Couple days later I broke the spring that holds the slide. So, if you aren't going to use it while repairing a pump that you can't isolate & that's a 20' repel into a confined space, I'd recommend it.

I love these pens. Feel good in the hand, too. I'm a Quality Control guy in a Japanese plant, and enjoy the "measuring" ability of this pen. Yes; maybe a bit geeky. It works for me. This is my 2nd purchase. "Roughly" accurate for basic measurements. A great gift for machinists, and guys who have "projects." Great functional quality.
