  • Great guitar, especially for the price
The guitar is well built, and plays great. Everything works w/o any issue. Some frets were slightly scratchy, and the fret ends, while not sharp to hurt the hand, can use some polishing as well, but they weren't bad and the guitar is playable out of the box. It was setup nicely without any buzz, and the pickups sound great. This is an excellent guitar, especially for the price, probably one of the best deals on Amazon. The tuners work fine, but a bit sloppy, and the guitar also has a bit of neck dive, but overall, I'm happy with the purchase. Contemplating getting another one and heavily mod it. ... show more

  • I didn’t think I’d like it.
I really didn’t want to like a thick neck lp style guitar. Dang it. It is far better than it should be. It sounds like a P90 guitar. The neck is thick, and comfortable. It a cheap guitar but well worth the asking price and after a (minimal) setup, will take a beginner a long way. I was going to move it but think I’ll hang onto it for a while. It was definitely a demo or something, judging by the fingerprints and surface scratches, but was in great shape otherwise. Time will tell but this feels like a real guitar. ... show more

  • Not bad for the price.
I bought this guitar as 'Used, mint' condition,so I can't really say much about the orginal condition. It had some pretty significant scratches and the D string tuning peg head was broken off. I don't know what the new,out of the box condition was. You can see the seams where the 3 pieces of the wood body come together and there is a light blemish in the finish all along the front top of guitar which I'm sure was there out of the box. The condition was definitely not mint. To be fair,Amazon did refund part of the purchase price. I'm keeping it because I have been looking for a p90,Les Paul style body guitar with a gloss finish. Now the good points. Once you get past the finish imperfections it's a good looking guitar.Being a black gloss finish,it's a fingerprint magnet but a quick wipe and it looks great. Given the price the pickups sound pretty good and the volume/tone controls work fine,no static when adjusting the tone and volume and they work all the way up and down. The tuners are ok,they did need to be tightened up. The pick up switch is a little loose but not bad.The pick ups don't have any writing on the them as shown in the pictures. The output jack is tight. The neck is straight and there's no high frets or fret sprout. The intonation is pretty close to spot on. All in all given what I wound up paying for it I'm satisifed, although I don't know if I would pay full price for it,again I got it used so I don't know what the original condition was and what damage was caused by the orginal purchaser. ... show more

  • The quality of IYV guitars continues
This is my second IYV guitar. It is excellent quality and the pickups have very distinct sounds. Action is low. I had two frets that needed just a little bit of filing on the edges-not really necessary but I just wanted to. I put some lemon oil on the fret board and it turned out beautiful. I made a small pick guard just to cut down on all the black a bit. ... show more

  • Overpriced
Arrived cracked at the joinery at the headstock in the neck typical when a guitar has had impact however the box was undamaged. I was not impressed about the intonation problem the guitar had even with the cracked neck it should have had better intonation but the wraparound tailpace was drastically grossly insufficient ... show more

  • you can upgrade pickups with Wilkinson p90 for better sound
This broke my new years resolution but it was worth it. Amazon pulled me back in by offering a $71 coupon. It arrived 2 days later. Like the last 4 guitars I bought, it played better than any of the guitars in guitar center. These come set up with low action and a good nut and bridge. Intonation spot on. The pickups are meh, and hard to replace without routing & compromising the guitar’s looks. I lemon oiled the Fret board, and replaced the elcheapo strings and it’s an excellent player. Update. Wilkinson m series p90s are a drop in upgrade for the iyv. Unfortunately the Wilkinson neck was a bit too boomy and muddy so I installed 2 Wilkinson bridge pickups to get the p90 sound I wanted. ... show more

  • Pickups suck, neck fret job sucks bad!
This guitar is very light. Not sure what kind of wood is used inside. I here lots of wonderful things about p90 pickups. These ones not so much. How can you skimp so much on asian made p 90 pick ups. They are not very expensive on amazone . So I would rather have cheap squier ceramic pickups than these p90's. I have a few high frets that are going to require me to really examine the whole fretboard. It won't be a simple fix. I should of returned this guitar. Not sure why I didn't. This is the second iyv that I have not been pleased with in the last two years. I think now iyv is hit or miss on their quality. Now I am very leary of pulling the trigger on their current products. ... show more

  • It’s OK - needs work to play well
Very pretty guitar. But it has a very unusual fat neck that feels like the neck on a budget model acoustic. It’s going to take some getting used to, but I will. It’s worth a 4.
