The functionality is great also. It can also carry other large items kayak-shaped, but I mainly use it for my kayak. The racks themselves are great. It fits ok easier, it's easy to put together and use. There are included straps that are meh overall. They don't ratchet to tighten, but they seem to hold strong. I will be replacing them with better straps in the long run though.

Generally good kayak rack that now allows me to put two kayaks on my roof instead of just one. These also provide a little extra support for the kayak laying flat on the racks beside them. They're a little on the small side, it seems like, but they may be at a standard size for these kinds of racks. They come with plastic-winged nuts that are meant to allow hand loosening and tightening, but I'm honestly not convinced they would be sufficient to keep these from shifting around. I went ahead and semi-permanently attached mine by torquing the standard nuts onto the bolts. This actually eventually caused the metal plates to warp slightly and wrap around the squared roof bars, yet the racks still shift around a bit somewhat loosely on the bars. All that considered, I think they'll still work. The install was easy and they don't make anymore noise while driving than my standard bars would by themselves. Hopefully they will hold up to rust over time.

This kayak mount is garbage. We accidentally bought 1 and needed 2 and the first one was no longer available so we had to get this one. In comparison to the first one this one is a joke. First of all, the undermount brace is much more narrow than the top brace so it’s not as secure as the first one we bought. Also, the bolts are so long it’s almost impossible to get your fingers underneath to spin the bolts on to secure it. Finally, the straps that came with are not long enough to make it around the kayak so we had to buy 2 new ones. The only reason we are not returning it is because it took hours to install and we were set on going kayaking that day and did not want to wait to disassemble it and return it. Do not buy this piece of crap. Look for one where the top and bottom braces are the same size and make sure the straps are more than 8 feet long.

I originally gave this a one star review and said it was unusable with the nuts and bolts that came with it, but this isn't accurate, the issue was poor instructions and user error. I came back and changed by review because it does work, but it's not great. There are no instructions, just a one picture diagram that caused my initial issue with the product. The J-tube supports are much smaller/shorter than I have seen on anything else before. I had purchased better separate straps and am going to have to go buy longer ones. The bolts are longer than they need to be, too long for a standard ratchet socket, so I had to tighten them 90% with the ratchet then finish with a crescent wrench. That said I just had it out for a 60 mile round trip where I was driving 55 MPH most of the time and everything worked and was secure, and it is cheaper than most of what I am seeing out there, so if you are looking for a budget option that works and are willing to put up with the issues this is the product for you.

Love these J bars, I had a difficult time getting them on the roof rack. Not sure if roof racks have different heights, or if the type on my Rav is just lower to the roof. It was hard getting the bolts and black screw on knobs on, due to the height issue, finally got them all on. Very sturdy. They might have to stay on through the winter, I'm not going through all that again. Definitely a great product, glad I purchased these!
