    • A fantastic cat tree at a great value

Buying a new piece of furniture is a substantial decision, so I searched long and hard and read lots of reviews. For my price range (ideally no more than $150), this is a huge, elaborate cat tree, by far beating out anything available in pet stores or their online shops. At one time or another I had plenty of concerns, based on the reviews. I can tell you right now that all my concerns were alleviated the moment it came out of the box. This goes without saying, but this is a very tall cat tree, so make sure you have room for it. The box is heavy (70lbs), so be careful lifting it. While individual parts aren't labeled, the instructions are as clear as they need to be, and one need only lay all the posts, bolts, screws, and platforms out side by side to see what needs to go where. Construction took my father and me no more than an hour, even as we paused when the oldest of my three cats (4 years old) jumped up to explore while we were still putting it together. (My two rambunctious kittens, 8 months old, were shut in my bedroom during construction. Otherwise it would have taken twice as long!) Construction is very easy and simple, with the only minor issue being the way the ramps connect to the underside of the platforms. It's not even a real problem per se, but you might need to put the screws in at an odd angle because the brackets won't entirely align with the pre-cut holes. I'd be surprised if your cats don't love it, because I know mine do. As I said, my 4-year old cat was all over it before we even finished construction. And once the kittens were allowed to explore... Well, suffice to say that even on the very first day it was put together, my dears spent more time on and around it than not! It does not detract from the strong reasons you have to buy this for your home, but I will note that the strings by which the mice are attached to the platforms will not last more than a couple hours at most. That's not a big deal though: That's just the natural order of things when cats play. And you can easily purchase mice and better strings to replace them. Long story short: I would consider this an essential purchase. This is more elaborate and nicer-looking than other cat trees that cost twice as much, and the materials from which it is made are as solid as any competition. Construction is easy, and your cats will love it. Don't be discouraged by the caveats you see in reviews. Once you see this in action, you'll be glad you made this choice for you and your family :-) ... show more

    • Really great buy - my cats adore it!

GREAT purchase! No, it's not carpeted - it's plush - but it's clear about that. My cats took to it almost immediately and they're on it almost constantly. I've had this about a year now and it still looks great. I couldn't believe the price, compared to the overpriced ones I saw at my local pet stores! Holy cow!!! This tree is big - but really decently made. It's sturdy and stands up to my 15 pound, muscular orange tomcat throwing himself onto it and putting his whole weight into scratching on the posts. The only thing I DO wish they did differently was to have replacement posts - My guy has put some serious wear and tear on the rope. I may try to shift the rope legs around at some point to get less scratched ones to a the more prominent locations ;-). And as for the toys? I haven't had any problem so far with them getting chewed off. That said, my cats are 8 and 9 years old, so they're not all about killing the toys ;-). That said, this morning, when my little black cat got up onto her perch, she started batting at one of the toys - LOL. Go figure! Oh - and as far as putting it together, although I asked the UPS guy to actually bring it into the house and put it right where I needed to assemble it, I managed to assemble it 100% by myself with next to no tools, only a few weeks after major back surgery. So if you're not terribly handy - don't worry - you can do it :-). If the time ever comes that this looks ratty enough to get rid of it, I'm going to buy another one for these guys - the price is definitely right and God knows, my cats ADORE it! ;-D. 8/20/20 - Update almost 5 years after buying it :-). I STILL love this cat tree. I've still got my big orange guy, who still loves it, but now, I also have 2 4-month old male kittens who race around the house at top speed and THROW themselves at this cat tree, racing up from bottom to top, and back down again, over and over and over :-D. They couldn't possibly love it more. It's held up pretty well, considering it's been WELL loved by multiple cats on a daily basis. It's their sleepy place, hiding place, playing place, resting place, stalking place and all around kitty happy place. Because 4 years of kitten love has made it look a little ratty, I'm likely going to replace it - with the very same cat tree - why mess with perfection?! :-D UPDATE AGAIN 4/8/22 - Just had a new one delivered - it's been 7 years since I bought the first one and I think that's a reasonable length of time for a cat tree that's had this many cats loving it for this long. The new one is exactly the same - easy to assemble and just as sturdy. Now the kittens are 2 years old and yes, I still have the orange tom, who still uses it for his daily sunbath and scratching post. Highly recommended if you can't afford those cat trees that cost $500! (like me) ... show more
