  • Good mix of songs.
I ordered this book of 50 songs because I loved the book (by the same author) of 70 songs I previously ordered. My ukelele playing has improved dramatically since I purchased these well-written music books. I'm very thankful to this writer for giving me the tools to develop my musical ability! (Regretfully, I waited 60 years before I learned to play an instrument). ... show more

  • Helps to reinforce note reading on ukulele
Here's what I like: There is no ukulele TAB in this book. It is the vocal melody written out in single staff musical notation with ukulele chords and diagrams above the staves. While I'm very good at sight-singing music, I my eyes always gravitate to tab when I'm fingerpicking melodies on the ukulele. I want to strengthen my ukulele sight-reading, so this book serves that purpose. It doesn't work for every single song, since some of them go below middle C, but there are enough songs to practice on. Plus, since I already am an excellent sight-singer, I can quickly learn the songs in the book that are unfamiliar to me and then get to strumming chords fairly quickly. Part of the reason I bought this book is because I felt it could come in handy when I'm teaching voice lessons (I teach both voice and ukulele). Some of my younger students get overwhelmed by full score piano and vocal sheet music. The part I'm a little nit-picky about and why I had considered returning this book: Some of the songs are unexciting to me. You should know that this is strictly a songbook. There's no guidance here about which fingers to use or which stumming/fingerpicking pattern. This could be either a good or bad thing, depending on what level of musicianship you are at. In the end, I'm deciding to keep the book and work my way through all of the songs, trying variations for each one. Maybe it's not so much what's in the book, but how you use the book, that makes all the difference. ... show more

  • it's contains the best selection of likable and varied easy ukelele songs I've ...
Even though this collection has a few titles that don't interest me, it's contains the best selection of likable and varied easy ukelele songs I've purchased. Contains some more contemporary music (instead of just the folk classics), such as Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah and Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now, plus Dylan's Mr. Tamborine Man, John Lennon's Imagine, all with chords that are mostly easy for beginners, plus a few challenging new chords thrown in for fun. I've enjoyed trying to do a bit of picking with these songs, not great, but a start at expanding beyond strumming. This book is not an instruction book, though. It's strictly songs. Actually, I wish there were more of these easy song collection books available. Highly recommend this book for somebody like me who's just starting out and is tired of Bill Bailey and Streets of Laredo, not that there's anything wrong with those......lol. ... show more

  • 50 Great Songs!
Easy to read, easy to use. Folds open and stays open due to the spiral binding. Highly recommended.

  • I really wanted to love this book, but you can't play more than one verse
I'm primarily a vocalist, learning ukulele so I can accompany myself and/or lead others in singing. I saw that other reviewers had commented on only one verse being in the music charts, and the rest being added at the end, but I didn't figure it mattered much. But...it really does. If you want to sing along (or lead sing-alongs) having lyrics with no chords at the end of the song doesn't make one lick of sense. It's not like it's even saving paper as it's the same number of horizontal lines taking up page space either way. So while the song list is nice and most are pretty easy to play, this is still the last book I reach for when I'm practicing. ... show more

  • easy to use
I like the fact that is spiral bound and lays flat when i use it. several of the books i have bought are paperback bound and you have to almost break it's back to get it to lay flat. The chord is illustrated above each chord change instead of just the chord name.
