I purchased this vacuum through a Warehouse Deal for $257. I had been waiting for the vacuum to come down in price, so when I saw the "Used - Like New" offer I jumped at it. The vacuum works amazingly well. I have dogs who shed a lot, multiple floor types, and stairs. It's great not having to change attachments in order to go from smooth floors to carpet. The rotating bristles gently scrub stuck on dust from hardwood floors and help to loosen pet hair from carpets. The suction power is intense. When vacuuming low pile area rugs the suction is so powerful that I had to open the suction valve release all the way in order to get it across the carpet. It's quite the workout! As negative as this sounds, it still does a great job. The amount of dust and debris that the Dyson pulled out of my area rugs is incredible. I also like being able to see what I'm vacuuming up through the clear canister. It may sound weird, but the cyclone of dog fur in the canister is pretty cool to watch. The Good/Excellent: The size is just right (not too big and not so small that it needs to be emptied multiple times during each use) The suction is powerful It is fairly lightweight NO VACUUM BAGS!!! The filtration is excellent It's quieter than my old Kenmore Excellent for cleaning up pet hair The Negative The plastic is lightweight and feels fragile - it also conducts a lot of static electricity, so dog hair sticks to the smooth parts The power cord could be a few feet longer It would be more convenient to have the On/Off switch on the handle rather than on the canister ... show more

After 30 years of high end and expensive German vacuums we decided to try Dyson and bought the expensive one recommended for heavy pet hair. We were impressed with how much dirt appeared in the canister on first use. Significant improvement over the previous vacuum. After ten years of very heavy use it was time for a replacement. We had been so pleased with the first Dyson we got this one: Dyson Big Ball. It works as well and as efficiently as our original, but with some improvements. Handling, emptying are improved. It comes with an adapter so we can use the add on floor brush from the original. The tools attach more efficiently. Overall an improvement on an already impressive vacuum cleaner. So: Some reviewers gave this model 1 star. Really? Here are a few facts from our experience. After four years the carpet beater stopped working. I had registered the Dyson when we first purchased it from Amazon. So I called Dyson, spoke with a very friendly rep. After a few questions about why the brush might not be working, there was a pause and the rep said " The replacement brush is on its way and will be with you in a couple days." On the few rare occasions there's been a product problem with an Amazon order it was addressed and resolved by Amazon immediately. That covers the initial period. Then, as long as you are a registered Dyson owner you get a FIVE YEAR replacement parts warranty. Anyone who finds the suction on this too much to handle had better not ever try to operate a chain saw! And there are plenty of less efficient, less effective vacuum cleaners out there. OK so I'll try to make a loooong story short(ish), and I promise you if you're considering buying this unit it's worth reading. My wife and I have owned 4 Dysons over about 15 years. 5 including this one. I have always respected and loved their ability with design. We bought this one July 9, and made the switch to a canister unit (other 4 were uprights). Registered for warranty upon receipt as I always did. Initial reactions - we loved it. Wand gets easily under furniture, it's easy to pull around, and suction is great. 5 stars all round, yay! Then after a week or so, we get to the issue: when you empty the canister and re-close the door at the bottom, there is a small, crappy, cheap, plastic clip holding the canister door shut (see first pic). If you don't finagle it closed carefully, then when you next remove the canister, the door pops open, and all the dust empties all over the vacuum unit and the floor. Other reviewers here have noted this. The clip is insubstantial and I have no faith at all that it would hold up over time. So... I try to be fair to the company that I respect, and I call them. 20 minutes on hold and eventually get a nice customer rep on the line. She tells me that: a) this is a known design flaw and b) they have designed a new door unit that solves the issue. I specifically verify that this is not a same unit replacement but a re-engineered, different part that solves the issue. She says she'll send me one for free. So... a win, right? Well no. So 2 weeks pass, and I get my package from Dyson, open it up, and receive a canister door that's about 1" too big in diameter (see the pic). I'm not mad... I call them again, another 20 minutes on hold and explain what's going on to another really nice person at Dyson. She tells me a) there is not a known design issue and b) there is no fix and all she can do is send me a whole new canister unit, which I tell her is no good because it's a design issue not a fault. So completely the opposite story. Now the issue is, that in the interim my return period with Amazon expired. I could have returned it back when I originally decided to trust Dyson to fix it. I always feel really let down when a company whose products I love changes direction and undermines the thing you respect about them (awesome design). So that's the deal, and the reason for the one star review. Hope it helps you avoid the problem's I have had. ... show more
