  • Poor battery performance but great everywhere else
Style: String Trimmer
Always a good choice. My only negative is the battery performance. After fully charging it was done in less the 300ft of fence edging. No big weeds just grass along the bottom of a fence. The machine went together and operated perfectly...but you'd better have at least two batteries.

  • So much better than fighting my old 2 stroke.
Style: String Trimmer
Very impressed with this weed eater. I haven't been too excited to jump into the realm of electric yard tools but I was sick and tired of fighting an old two stroke engine. I've always had a good experience with Dewalt and this was no exception. Plenty of power and cuts great. The battery lasts longer than I do. I would last a little longer if it had a shoulder strap but the weight is managable. It's also compatible with the pole trimmer attachment which will be one of my next purchases. ... show more

  • Has the power
Style: String Trimmer
Has a Lot of power, but uses about one large battery per 25 min of constant use.

  • powerful tool with flaws
Style: String Trimmer
This machine can tear up the weeds . The battery though is good for about 35 minutes or so . If you have a lot to do you need at least one spare probably two. The head is a nightmare. It is not that easy to wind it in and then the head top has two tabs. I get one in and try to press down the other side . then when it goes in the opposing tab pops out. It is horrible and I am probably going to have to find some kind of replacement head that fits what would have been a AAA plus machine. It's a real problem the device comes with almost zero instructions regarding the head. It has to be all put together then line up the white dots (which will wear off really fast when used) shove the line through . Do not use too much . The cutting tab which is supposed to cut the string as it swirls is useless plastic. It needs to be sharp metal. This is my edit to my post. I have to say it is really strong and I love Dewalt products but they this is my second DeWalt string trimmer and they don't have a clue about good heads on these things. ... show more

  • First summer was a good summer
Style: String Trimmer Kit w/ Edger Attachment
I used this all summer and am pleased with the performance. I have ~400 feet to edge and when the soil is relatively dry I can do that on one charge and have 2 bars showing when I am done. Damp earth gums up in the guard, requiring it to be cleared at intervals, and the mud loads the motor, shortening the battery life. But I can still get it done on one charge if I keep the guard mostly free of mud. The guard was designed by lawyer and not an engineer / user and so has to be modified to make the unit usable. As delivered it prevents the blade from getting deep enough and gums up with soil constantly. The string trimmer seems to be fine. I am no expert on this part as I have only a small amount of trimming to do. I note that upon receipt, and after the 1st battery charge, the battery didn't last very long. I had to charge it 3 times for the 400 ft. After the 2nd charge, the energy storage seems to have improved nicely. The guard modification to rid the machine of the unnecessary load probably helped in this regard. I also note that the grease bushing in the trimmer attachment somehow worked its way up the shaft and jammed the indexing button so that it no longer worked. A deep socket and a hammer drove it back to its home and all is well. How that bushing moved I do not know. ... show more

  • As Strong As A Gas Trimmer
Style: String Trimmer
First of all I have been using gas trimmers for a long time. I’ve also spent plenty of money fixing and maintaining them. Just wish something like this would have been in the picture sooner. My last gas trimmer was leaking fuel all over my driveway and gave me the worst time starting. So this purchase was prompted by my frustration! Now for the great part once assembled ( the instructions leave a lot to be desired) and charged up this trimmer worked great on a test area. Finally yesterday I ran it all around my house. At first in low gear and it made trimming my grass as simple and easy as my gas trimmer. Then I added some of my old attachments (edger, hedge clippers) on high gear and it did the job better than my old gas trimmer. Yes, you can use other attachments on this model which was what I wanted to do. Never expecting my older craftsman attachments to work. This item was highly rated and I can see why it is strong and capable. Looks very sturdy and has a solid feel. The battery is a bit heavy and may take some time to get used to but no heavier than a gas trimmer. The battery life was exceptional also, ran it for a solid two hours with minimal battery burn. I am so glad that I made purchase and went green! Don’t think twice spend your money once on a solid item once. ... show more

  • Broke after 3 hours of use and customer service was horrible
Style: String Trimmer
After about 3-4 hours of residential use with the string trimmer and brush cutter attachments, the power unit stopped working. I started a warranty claim, which could be described as cumbersome at best. When The unit was shipped off to their factory service center I was notified a few weeks later (after multiple inquiries) that the unit was going to be replaced, and a new one shipped. After more than 2 months and half a dozen follow up phone calls, the replacement still has not arrived. A call to the repair center is being met with "we can't help, you our computer system is down, call back [later, tomorrow, etc...] and every time I call back as requested it keeps being pushed off. A call to Dewalt was met with "sorry, can't help you you have to contact the service center". And was told at one point that they couldn't get in contact with the service center. At this point it's basically theft. they still have the unit I paid for and refuse to do anything to rectify the problem, have a non-functioning computer system, and seem to have no interest in actually rectifying this issue.
