Description

Dear grouchy neighbor: I’m considering your offer and need clarification before proceeding. Despite being an artist, I think you know that as a busy New Yorker, I am also practical and straightforward. That said, I need to make sure you know that this could never turn into anything serious. I don’t care if you’re trying to get over your ex-girlfriend or hoping she’ll eventually want to get back together with you—just don’t project your messy feelings about her onto me. Because, despite your resemblance to an underwear model, I won’t be falling for you. Ever. Yours, with clear boundaries, Bernadette p.s. I’d like to be very clear that regardless of whether or not we do this, nothing will change my feelings for your dog (and we both know she loves me too). Dear nutty neighbor: As a lawyer, I must clarify that I never made an offer. It was a suggestion regarding the possibility of a non-permanent, no- strings-attached arrangement between two consenting adults whose beds are separated by a wall. As a man who shares your disdain for messy feelings, I applaud your confidence in your ability to not fall for me. Hold on to that. I’d also like to make it clear that I don’t care if you want to get over your crush on your boss or if you still hope he’ll realize you’re the woman of his dreams. That said, I definitely wasn’t thinking about my ex-girlfriend when I kissed you in the laundry room, and I’m quite sure you weren’t thinking about your boss. As a dog daddy, I'm glad you're so taken with my girl. But if you try to steal her I will get all Liam Neeson up in your pretty face. As a busy New Yorker, I think clear boundaries are hot. I have one hour free to blow your mind tonight. So turn off Netflix, put down that glass of wine, and let’s do this. Yours for now, Matt Read more

  • WITTY, CHARMING, AND A FUN FRIENDS TO LOVERS MUST READ
Format: Kindle
Come Back to Bed was my first book by Kayley Loring and it won’t be my last. I loved “Come Back to Bed” and both of the leading characters, Matt and Bernadette. The author is a very clever writer pulling me in from the very beginning. The characters were smart, witty, engaging, and on a journey of self-discovery and finding their soul mate. I had off work today for a snow-day and read this straight through all morning. Matt was an attorney who moved into his aunt’s home after being dumped by his live-in girlfriend. I liked how he was not only handsome and very well built (the visual descriptions were excellent), but also educated, thoughtful, funny, patient, and loyal. I loved how he loved his dog and how he admired Bernadette’s artistic talent and uniqueness. He was not a player nor a billionaire which was refreshing. Bernadette was a tough nut to crack but I loved how open and honest she was, and how as the reader, you knew exactly what she was thinking and why. I would love to be her friend in real life. She had some issues to work through, but was also smart and talented, a good friend, a hard worker, and an awesome temporary neighbor to Matt. Bernadette’s parents cracked me up and I liked how both leads had parents who were actually alive and that nothing tragic happened to them growing up. This seems to be the theme of so many books today after the success of Fifty Shades, and it was refreshing to have both sets of parents, plus his aunt, her employer, and their friends as secondary characters. I loved Matt and Bernadette together and was routing for them the entire time. They were friends and lovers, and I loved all of their conversations and times together. Their sexy times were all that and more! I could feel their connection and attraction towards one another on every page. They did go through a bit of a rough patch at the end, but I liked how they were honest with their feelings and didn’t play games, and how they eventually got their own HEA with everything coming full circle. This book is currently FREE on KU which is how I read it, but I liked it so much, I purchased a copy for only 99 cents so I can re-read it in the future. Well done Kayley! ... show more

  • Come to the Dinner Party from Hell
Format: Kindle
We've all been there - the social gathering that starts out awkward and then gets worse and, incredibly, even worse. My favorite involved my husband and other first-year grad students being invited for "drinks and conversation" at the home of their most influential faculty member. The event was held at dinner time, but no food was mentioned. The students and spouses all got together for pizza before heading to the get-together, where we found the faculty member's wife in the midst of a huge spread of food and a cook-out on their patio. Watching all of us trying to stuff down the second dinner Of the evening was both hilarious and painful. Many other absurdities and feet-inserted-in-mouths continued until the event concluded at long last. And so, Bernadette and Matt at a cringe-worthy dinner party given by an elderly neighbor rang true for me. The writing is well done and kept me smiling long after I finished the book. Here's the thing: seeing how a person reacts to a miserable but well-intentioned dinner party; noticing how a person responds when you are ill or injured; observing a person dealing with the elderly or dogs or family gives insight into that person's character and is really quite romantic. Just jumping into a friends-with-benefits relationship with a barely known neighbor doesn't seem romantic or advisable to me. I enjoyed the book otherwise. I read it because of OLT's remark in her review that this book is similar to J.T. Geissinger's Melt for You, my favorite CR. While there are similarities (a temporary neighbor, a heroine with a crush on her boss, a charming but not cloying pet), these are two distinct and enjoyable books that share good writing and good humor. ... show more

  • Wow a cooky funny romance
Format: Kindle
Oh my gosh this book was absolutely delightful the two main characters Matthew who is a lawyer at a tech firm and Bernadette who by choice is an executive assistant to a famous painter artist millionaire. The Story Goes Matthew just came out of a bad breakup with his long- term girlfriend Vanessa who he lived with for 3 years with his baby doll girl doggie Daisy. Bernadette lives next door to Matthews Aunt who is on vacation in Europe with her latest beau. Matthew's aunt offers to let him stay at her condo until she returns from Europe. Bernadette is friends with his aunt and while she's gone takes care of her plants for her. This romance is part comedy part love contemporary romance. Bernadette for the past 3 years has had a crush on her boss Sabastian. Matthew is still reeling on the fact that he may get back together with his ex-girlfriend. The first time Bernadette sees Matthew she does not know he is her new temporary neighbor but he is on the phone with his hands on the leash of his dog Daisy and the first thing that Bernadette sees is Daisy and she's cooing and baby talking to Daisy until she follows the leash up up up to the most handsome gorgeous man she's ever seen and she bursts out laughing because he's too gorgeous for his own good. But this gorgeous well-dressed man is kind of rude so she goes on her merry way at home she finds in her mailbox a dress that she purchased online after she had been tipsy she thought maybe she'd wear it sometime around her boss so she tries it on and unable to take it off in time for the buzzer and her new temporary neighbor is coming to collect the key she runs down the stairs all dressed up in this new dress and who's there but the most gorgeous man she's ever seen and the rudest man with the cutest doggy. Matthew and Bernadette's back and forth relationship is based on mutual attraction but Bernadette does not believe in long-term relationships boyfriend girlfriend type unless of course it's going to be with her boss. Matthew like I mentioned before is just coming out of a serious relationship heartbroken and maybe still believes he can get back together with his ex. Bernadette and Matthew are constantly bickering back and forth texting and emailing. But the interest is there mutual attraction. It takes one kiss to light that flame. After the kiss Matthew comes up with a no-strings-attached proposition for Bernadette they can have sex nothing else when it's convenient for them Bernadette is all for this because she does not believe that Matthew is her type Matthew does not believe that Bernadette is his type she's The artsy type and he believe she's crazy, he's the stuck-up lawyer type and she believes he's too good for her. Neither one expected that the sex would be as good as it is it's the best sex either has ever had which causes some conflicts in their rules. When Matthew hurts himself playing basketball one day Bernadette takes it upon herself to take care of him he is high as a kite off the meds somebody at work gave him a Percocet. This is where their line starts cross even more because of their rules no sleepovers no texts or phone calls after no dates just if they decide to see other people they'll end it immediately so when Bernadette takes care of him all his inner feelings about her kind of come out but he writes them down on little sticky notes of paper. Then after he's healed a week or so goes by and Bernadette gets the flu but because of her hippie parents she does not believe she's sick she just thinks that she can take Theraflu and be right back at work but this is where Matthew takes care of her and to confirm her craziness she's nuts when she's on Theraflu. The thing about Bernadette is she's a great artist she has paintings and pictures and she's wasting her talent working for somebody else and Matthew sees this and it aggravates him. So when Bernadette has to go to a work function Matthew invites himself and this is where the jealousy comes in first everybody's jaw drops that Bernadette has brought a date to a party then their jaw drops because he's so gorgeous people start asking questions about their relationship and Bernadette just babbles and babbles about he's her neighbor he's her neighbor which kind of infuriates Matthew but he leaves it alone people start asking if they can have a go with Matthew and that's where Bernadette starts to realize that she has feelings for Matthew and no longer has feelings for her boss. But her boss kind of hits on her at the party because she's so dressed up and Matthew sees this and that's the second time that night he's felt jealous and he leaves the party. This is where the story takes a turn for the more sentimental part of the story when Bernadette sees Matthew leave the party she starts to wonder if they could have more when she gets home she texts him that they need to talk and he thinks she's going to tell him that it's over but he surprises her with that he wants more out of the relationship he wants to date exclusively. So they both agree they'll date then he meets the parents her crazy hippie parents and he loves them. Then she meets his parents and during their lunch meeting she gets a shock because she did not know Matthew was searching for a new place to live turns out he found a house in Brooklyn Which is far away from her and she hates Brooklyn. Then on her way home from work stunned because her boss also has decided to move and wants her to move with him big big big stunts all of this is too much for Bernadette she's falling in love with Matthew and now he's moving to Brooklyn she believes his parents do not like her on her way home from work she sees Vanessa Matthew's X coming out of their apartment complex and thinks the worst. Matthew was about to slip a note under her door when she comes up the stairs he puts it in his back pocket because he sees that she's upset and when she tells him that she saw Vanessa she tries to read his expression but he tries to tell her that nothing happened and he's fearing the worst because she's acting very strange she tells him about her boss's proposal and they seem to end things in their relationship even though she has no romantic feelings towards her boss anymore and she's in love with Matthew but she feels that since he's moving to Brooklyn this is the best, turns out the note was actually asking her to move with him he never gives it to her. With their weekend schedule so messed up they do not see each other before he moves and a week and a half goes by without them seeing each other and they're both miserable Bernadette goes to her Family Farm in Vermont to spend time with her parents and that's when Matthew goes to his aunt searching for Bernadette to tell her that he loves her and he will fight for her because living without her these past week and a half has been miserable for him and for Daisy. But when he goes to find Bernadette his aunt tells him that she's gone and he fears the worst that he's lost her forever to her boss but when his aunt tells him she's not there he realizes where she's gone and he travels to Vermont hops on a plane and that's where they tell each other that they love each other. The epilogue is in Matthews POV and it's hilarious it takes place three years after they move in together a lot has happened in 3 years Bernadette has had her own show twice with her paintings and drawings and they are engaged and have a baby girl who has a crazy attitude just like her mama I first borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited but I just had to buy it. ... show more
