I make green smoothies almost daily, and this blender's dedicated "green smoothie" mode is amazing! It usually handles hard things like nuts, oats, frozen fruit, and dried fruit perfectly well with the amounts of liquid I'd expect, though occasionally it needs a second round of blending to get it all perfectly smooth. It rarely cavitates. There's no leakage, and it seems pretty durable; I've regularly used it for about 3 months now. The blades might be slightly less sharp than when I first bought it, but that's probably my own fault for emptying the last bits of smoothie with a metal spoon. The self-clean cycle is a wonderful perk, though sometimes it leaves things like nut butters still stuck under the blade or on the side of the canister, so keep an eye out for that.

There's a reason these things are considered the best actual normal everyday blender on the market. All those gimmick blenders as seen on TV are more marketing than an improvement on the art of blending things electrically. In the real world, where people don't buy appliances because they look good on Instagram, look pretty on their counter, or because a celebrity told them what to buy, the Breville is *it* for a reason. In a working kitchen, for the purpose of taking things and making them into squishy things, you buy this. Cleaning your blender is always a pain, right? I mean, nobody loves the task of cleaning a blender. There are all these fiddly bits and gaskets and even if you just take it apart and huck it in the dishwasher it's still not the fun part of blending things. The Breville makes that as minimally painful as possible, to the point of actually having a cleaning cycle where you just throw some water in there and push the clean button. It helps unstick the goo and makes it much easier to quickly rinse and wash properly. The shape of the jar itself makes the inside easy to clean, and the rest is really straightforward to wash off. Noise, though? Man, oh, man, there's no such thing as a quiet blender that does a good job. There might be products that are quiet-ish, but they're terrible blenders. There might be fancy commercial blenders, but they're ridiculously loud. The random blender you buy at Target or something is both loud and terrible at the same time. The Breville, it's not quiet at all, not by a long shot, but since it does its job properly you aren't running it forever and ever just to try to get the thing to do something. Turn it on, it does its thing, turn it off. The loud part is over quickly. Compared to a cheap blender, that's saying something. Honestly, now that I've had a chance to use one of these things, I'd never consider anything else. All the fancy-pants brands fail to live up to their expensive reputations one way or another. The Breville, however, is everything they say it is. Believe the hype.

We've had this for almost 3 years now, and we think so highly of it we thought we'd come back and leave a review. It's a little heavy, but that's because it's got a serious motor in it. This thing would probably liquify a Volkswagen if you could somehow fit it in there. Things we see as pros: There are five speeds that you can change "on the fly"; the lid really seals, and has a port in it to add stuff while the machine is on; the jug is a very clear, very tough Lexan-type plastic (we've been unable to break it, not for lack of trying) with clear volume markings in cups, liters, and milliliters; it has a "self-clean" cycle that at first we thought was just a gimmick, but is actually quite helpful (add a squirt of detergent, a cup or two of water, close it up, turn it on, and walk away.) We've never felt the need to put it in a dishwasher. Things that might be seen as cons: As I said, it's a little heavy; it limits itself to a 60-second run time, so if you need more than that you'll need to re-start it. (I guess that's to keep that monster motor from overheating, but we've rarely needed more than a minute, and never had any issue with overheating at all); the lid might be seen as sealing TOO well, as it can sometimes be tough to get open; and, of course, it's expensive for a blender. If you use a blender a lot, and/or need to work with heavy ingredients or larger quantities, we think it's money well spent. It will never burn out and will never fail to do what you ask it to do.

I bought this blender by the recommendation of America’s test kitchen. Overall it’s a solid, reliable blender. It’s surprisingly lightweight, which makes it easy to move around the kitchen, and cleanup is quick — the jar and blades rinse out effortlessly, and nothing seems to cling to the sides. Performance-wise, it blends well. Smoothies come out smooth, frozen fruit gets handled without much trouble, and the motor is strong enough for everyday tasks. My only real complaint is the control panel. The buttons are all pictures instead of labeled words, and some of the icons are confusing to interpret at a glance. It still works fine once you get used to it, but I wish Breville had made the controls a little more intuitive. Overall, it’s a great blender for the price: lightweight, easy to clean, and powerful — just expect a small learning curve with the buttons.
