I looked for a bread box for a long time. Off and on over a couple of years, I researched various boxes and read reviews but just couldn’t seem to settle on the right box for me. I finally took the plunge with this one, and I made the right choice. What I like: --Size. This box hold a ton of bread products. I currently have 3 packages of English muffins, 2 loaves of pumpernickel bread, a package of hot dog buns, and a package of hamburger buns in the box—and there’s still a bit of room to spare! --Shape. I like the flat surfaces. It fits nicely on a shelf and I can put other (light) items on top. --Sturdiness. The box is lightweight, but seems to be well-made. I mean, it’s not as if it’s as resilient as a steamer trunk or something, but it’s brawny enough to keep my bread safe. And, as mentioned, I can put other items on top, within reason. --Freshness. I don’t know why, but I used to have a problem with baked goods becoming moldy within a day or two when I kept them on the counter, even when the dehumidifier was running. They’d last longer if I put them in the fridge, but I hated to having to do that since it took up fridge space and gave the products a less than optimal texture. This box keeps bread soft, fresh, and mold-free for a ridiculously long time. No more throwing out partially-eaten loaves. --Latch. The box opens and closes easily, with the magnetic latch catching securely. What I don’t like: --Finish. It’s a personal preference, but I’m not the biggest fan of the current trend in steel appliances. Luckily this box doesn’t show fingerprints too badly; it’s not as if I’m touching it all over, so it really only shows the occasional print on the door. I’d still have preferred a white enamel finish, but I’m getting used to the steel. --Price. I’m throwing this in here because others have remarked that it’s a bit on the high side. That’s true, but for me it was worth it. I’d rather pay a bit more for something that actually works than get an OK product for a cheaper price. When all’s said and done, I figure this box will pay for itself at some point due to all the moldy bread I’m no longer pitching in the trash. Truthfully, both of these “negatives” don’t bother me enough to deduct points, but I did think they deserved a mention Some of the earlier reviews also indicated that their boxes arrived damaged. My box was shipped in its original cardboard product box that was then placed inside an Amazon shipping box with extra packing material to secure it. It arrived in perfect condition, so I think that issue has been resolved. I’m happy with my selection and hope this review helps other buyers with their decision.

Excellently made. It is the best and least obtrusive for the amount of bread that it holds. Does anything ever hold as much as we would like in a certain space. It is the best I have found to help with my bread supply. What I can’t fit, I put nicely on top.

After making many homemade sourdough loaves and seeing evidence that the occasional mouse had chewed a hole through the bag I kept it in, we decided a breadbox was needed. This one was the one we chose since what mouse can chew through metal? We like the look and it fits perfectly on top of our counter and holds up to four one-pound boules at once. Unfortunately, (and why only four stars) the item arrived no dents (yay!) but when opening the door about halfway open it makes a loud creak where the bottom of the door hits the frame and doesn't want to open further without loud squeaking. Thinking this is defective I told Amazon and they sent me another one in two days and I returned the one with the creaky door. The second one has the EXACT SAME DOOR creak!! So we are just going to keep it and listen to the door hit the frame every time we open the door. Design flaw? I don't know why no one else said anything in any of the reviews? But halfway opening the door it starts "Creak!" and sounds like we're breaking it to get it all the way open.

I never raved about a simple bread box before, until now! Bread boxes are usually plain-Jane looking, or take up space with a curved slide-top, that hardly fits a loaf of bread, but this box changed my kitchen! It also saves us a LOT of money and wasted time going back and forth for fresh rolls. We LOVE bread in my house-bagels, fresh rolls that you buy individually for $.65 each, that are usually only good until the next morning, english muffins, white bread. Usually, the bread is moldy or rock hard within a week. After starting to use this bread box, we hardly waste any bread at all! It keeps everything so soft, fresh, and tasty for a long time. I was shocked when a fresh bread roll was still soft and delicious 3 days after my husband bought them with fresh cold cuts. Life (bread) saver! Now, onto the way it looks. I love sleek, "chic Marilyn Monroe-type" items for my home, and this fits it. The last thing I wanted was an unsightly wooden bread box. Honestly, bread boxes always grossed me out because they didn't seem easy to clean being that they were wood. This box is so easy to clean, and it is so sleek and chic with the mirrored finish! It matches my style to the 'T'! Now, onto the storage space! This box fits so much! I will post pictures of everything we have in ours at once! Also, it gives me room to place decorative pieces for my kitchen on top of the box, since it is a rectangle with a flat top, and not rounded. Love it so much! It also makes my kitchen look less cluttered by hiding all of those bread items so neatly, instead of having ziplocks of bagels and rolls, on top of a bag of white bread and english muffins. This is worth the money!! I LOVE IT!

I knew going into this process that buying anything short of a heavy ceramic bread box was unlikely to result in the acquisition of a tank or a bulldozer of a metal box; and that's not what I wanted anyway. There are a lot of cheaper boxes out there than the Brabantia drop-front, but in the end I am glad I spent the extra 25 dollars or so. Why? 1) Great color. Just nifty crisp metallic mint. 2) Drop front tight magnetic closure. 3) Perfect small footprint with still-ample storage. 4) Smooth, crisp door action. No tracks to jump, no roller front to slip. The answer to the sturdiness question is simple. Do I plan to use my breadbox as a foot stool? A hammer? No, no I don't. It's light and tight, and shiny. All done.
