The equipment is very nicely built. Heavy duty enough for ANYONE'S home gym. Assembly took me 10 hours. I'm an engineer and pretty handy with tools. The instruction book included an addendum of corrections. Even with that, there were a couple of places where the instructions said to use a certain part number of bolt and there were none left of that number. There were other part numbers that were never requested. I was able to look at the sizes and match up the "extra" part numbers to the depleted part numbers and get the thing assembled without too much frustration. The leg press is sold, packaged, and shipped as a separate item so the installation instructions basically have you assemble the main frame first then disconnect some of it to add the leg press. I tried working setting up the leg press in parallel so I wouldn't have to undo work that was completed, but in the end was not able to save any time this way. I was expecting the 160# weight stack but it arrived with the full 210# so don't go buying the extra weights until you see what arrives. Total shipment weight of the equipment was just over 600# - have some help handy. The heaviest box weighed about 150# and was way too bulky to handle safely by yourself. Once assembled I was very impressed with the quality of the equipment. This is as nice as the stuff I had access to in college. The only down side is the absolute and complete lack of any instructions for how to USE the equipment. The leg extension, leg press and chest press pieces are pretty obvious. In addition there are several (four?) rings where you can attach any one of several different types of handles/grips. I believe the manufacturer should provide a booklet showing the typical exercises that isolate particular muscle groups by attaching which handles/grips to which attach points and how to use them effectively. I was unable to find anything from the vendor and so far have found nothing from other third parties. Maybe I'll write one! If you have a basic understanding of how to use weight machines I believe you will be pleased with this purchase.

First the positive: once you get it up and running, it is a very good to excellent weight machine, and well worth the price when you consider gym memberships etc. It's a real luxury to have one of these in your home, and it's certainly better than having to wait around the gym for your turn on the machine (not to mention dealing with neanderthals and sweaters!). The leg press is okay. It's hard to get a good range of motion. I'm shorter, so I could have used another peg hole to move up closer to the press itself. I'm not much a believer in heavy weights over the long haul (I'm 55 and regret those years on the bench, squat and free weights - all terrible for the joints). This machine puts the right amount of tension for whatever levels and there are countless movements possible for whatever sport you do (mine is cycling). Now for the somewhat bad: it's a real bear to assemble - easily the hardest thing I've ever had to put together. The instructions get you started but get worse as you go along. It's way too easy to put it together incorrectly (and I'm still not sure I have it exactly right). On the plus side, there is good customer service for assembly help. They were responsive and worked through problems by sending pics through emails. That part was satisfying, but they could really use a revision on the manual. It took a loooong time to assemble!

I am not a true body builder/gym rat type. What I wanted was a home gym that gave me most of the exercises I would want to do with a stack system. It's amazing what you can accomplish in 12 minutes 3x a week. After lots of research, I determined that this is the best product in this price class. Make sure that you purchase the add-on weights. The design of the product is good, but not perfect. As someone mentioned elsewhere, the fly attachment kind of sticks in your ear when you're doing leg presses, but you can make it work without much effort. (The fly exercise was a nice addition to the Body Solid S2 I had before.) Of course, I know that if I spent $4,000, I could get a better system. But at 1/3 the cost, at the end of it all, I am absolutely THRILLED with this product at this price. In reading through the reviews, I found a few people who complained that something was left out of the package. Yep. It happens. In fact, it happened to me. One of the pop-pins was missing from the set. So, I called 800-556-3113 and got Scott, a customer support rep. The guy just did a great job. He registered my warranty, and got the missing item shipped. That's really important with products like these: responsive tech support, without having to write an email to someone in China. Full disclosure - If I sound like a shill, that's because this is the 2nd time I have owned a Body Solid product. I had an S2 for several years and loved it. Decided to sell it to get a WaterRower. (Also a great product, BTW.) Missed my weight stack so much that I had to get it back.
