This is a good standard chef's coat in the double breasted style. It has a full cut, meaning it is roomy in the torso, good for when you're working in a hot kitchen. Sleeves are about 1.5 to 2 inches shorter than your standard sleeves of this shirt size, and V-notched to stay out of your way when you are prepping or cooking food. Rolls up easily and stays around the elbow cuff if you prefer. This coat is the industry standard tough fabric that you're used to. Be careful when purchasing these chefs coats on Amazon, I have had several in my review queue and they were way too big. This one fits to size perfectly. If you wear a Medium for your regular shirts, get a Medium. It will feel roomy but if you look at your shoulder hem placement, it is accurate. ... show more

I worked as first pastry before moving into chef de cuisine at a retreat center over several years, but unlike some of the others who had passed through, I'd never gotten a culinary degree. True, no one cared much, as I had trained under various chefs over the years and had enough requisite experience, but everyone could tell in that... all of them had chef whites (or blacks in many cases), and I... I had sarcastic t-shirts and hats. Normally, it was good humour about it, and it's not that I felt any shame in that, but every so often I felt like some clients would either not recognize my role in the kitchen, or not take me as seriously... Well... I saw these and. . .I figured why not give it a shot. I picked black, because let's be honest, keeping whites fully clean is next to impossible... and... I don't know. It just makes me smile in a way, even after all these years... I tried it on, and it fit great. It looked really sharp honestly. Made me feel professional in a way that - yes, I've always known I was professional, but - is hard to describe, but it just felt... good. I know not all of this is likely relevant to whoever may be reading the review - you probably already got the basics of it being a really good piece for a chef - but... if someone ever has anyone that works in food, and they don't have the more traditional look or clothing... it might really matter to someone if this got this, as a gift or otherwise. ... show more
