  • Great feeling and playing piece ...
Size: Size 6C Style: Classic
(Review by a pretty ordinary, though nerdy and gear-headed, amateur player!) I started playing a size 6 rim a couple of years ago and it was one of the best things that happened to me as a player. I've slowly collected a range of these (e.g., Bach 6BM, Bach [straight] 6, Yamaha Hagstrom, Curry 6TF...) and they've served me very well on C and Bb in various configurations. I do have a 6C with the throat opened to 26, but purchased this 6C so that I have a newer stock piece (= 10 backbore and 27 throat). The Bach 6C plays nicely on the C trumpet, although for extra presence, I've found the 6BM almost a must. Nevertheless, the 6C (stock) can provide good precision and tone on lighter playing above the staff. I find it gives a good focus to the Bb trumpet as well. Anyway, don't just jump into a 1 1/2, or even a 3, without first spending some time on the 6. Dr. Valve (Chicagoland) passed along the observation that too many players with ordinary sized lips are playing pieces that are too big. Though the ideal mouthpiece size is very individualized, just recognize the temptation to play something too large and see what you can do with a piece like the 6 with different throat and backbore combinations. (I keep my Yamaha Hooten for fun, but haven't had success and sustainability with it like I have the 6.) The Bach 6C is a great way to try it out. (Note: for picc playing, you can try a different company, but I've gone with the Bach 7EW. I can switch between the 6 and the 7EW very comfortably due to the extra width of the latter.) ... show more

  • This is now my go to Mouthpiece for my Back Strat
Size: Size 3E Style: Classic
This is my favorite mouthpiece and the best decision I have made when it came to buying a new mouthpiece. I was using a C, but this E allows me so much more flexibility when it comes to playing my 12 scales. It fit perfectly into my Back Strat and was easy to use. The sound quality was great, and it's easy to clean. It is well made and very durable. I expect it to last for many many years. Very happy with my purchase ... show more

  • A new experience above the staff.
Size: Size 3E Style: Classic
As others have written, this mouthpiece has a special use, which for me is Latin jazz (not my usual repertoire until recently). I adjusted to it in about a week of playing. At six weeks later my top playable range has gone from D above high C to E and able to hit F if needed. I expected a brighter tone and better flexibility, and this has definitely occurred. Endurance in the high range has increased as well. Interestingly, I use a Marcinkiewicz 1S (wide, deep and open) for work mostly on the staff, particularly where dark, round tonality is needed. I play a Warburton 4MV with a 9* backbone for general work. Since I began using the Bach 3513E, my range with the Marcinkiewicz has risen even more dramatically. Two nights ago my lip simply quit while working up high with the Bach. The Warburton did not offer much help. I rested a minute and unexplainably resumed with the Marcinkiewicz in the same range, only louder and rounder and yes, using more air. I am sixty nine and have played trumpet since childhood. I was taught to stick with one mouthpiece, but no more. Physiology and the needs of the work call for different tools, and modern technology has risen to the occasion. I feel like I am exploring new country. Take a chance on this mouthpiece. It may open new doors for you as well. ... show more

  • I prefer the 3D, but it's still good
Size: Size 3E Style: Classic
I was told to check out the Bach 3E. They sent me the 3D by mistake. No big deal. Liked the 3D a lot. They sent the 3E to replace it but when I tried them both back to back I preferred the 3D. I ended up returning the replacement 3E and kept the 3D. I found that the E cup is a little too shallow for me. My lips kept touching the inside and I'm not used to that. ... show more

  • It is what I thought I wanted
Size: Size 3E Style: Classic
Trusted Bach mouthpiece. I play on a 3C and thought I should get the 3E. As long as I play it without putting the 3C to my lips, I play fair. I like the bright tone and it really doesn't add much to my range. I'm not a screamer and the highest I play with my 3C is a D above the staff. If I want to play E above the staff, I can. My F above the staff is not something I would play on purpose. Wit 3E I can play a little better E note and an F, maybe G. But I can play longer and louder and better on the 3C. I think the cup is too shallow for me. ... show more

  • I got this for my Nephew because the trumpet he got did not come with a good quality Mouthpiece
Size: 1-1/4C Style: Classic
You have to have the right mouthpiece in order to play your instrument... Me it is the Trumpet. I got this for my Nephew because the trumpet he got did not come with a good quality Mouthpiece. He was allergic to the Nickel that was in it. So I refered to my Mouthpieces that I have with my Bach Trumpet, got him to see which one he played best on, and ordered him this Mouthpiece the size that he was comfortable with and I knew he would not have an Metal Allergy to the Bach because of it's quality. He's had Zero trouble with it and he plays wonderfully. Will highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Kurt Thompson is Right
Size: Size 3E Style: Classic
I know that other reviewers have mentioned Kurt Thompson about this particular model. I hope he has an affiliate link. I figured I give it a go after hearing his recommendation. I'm not sure how this model slipped by me in my 30 years of playing trumpet, but this is the only Bach product I actually like. It's comfortable, nice bright sound and responsive. I highly recommend trying this mouthpiece out and fully support this mouthpiece being the new standard over the 5C and 7C for beginners. ... show more
