After much consideration, I reluctantly ordered this flat iron as a gift for my teen aged daughter. We have been a CHI family and I was unhappy with the fact that shortly after I purchased my Chi the cord started to short circuit and eventually it just died. My daughter has a head FULL of hair that's super thick and is naturally curly/wavy and usually very hard to tame. The sheer amount of hair on her head is one problem, let alone the thickness and coarseness of it is a whole other issue. She has a tough time straightening her hair just because it takes SO long and there is so much of it. I was really hesitant to buy a flat iron that I knew nothing about but I read several great reviews of this one, and even found it at Ulta and talked to a few of the styling ladies there who said they had used it and it worked very, very well. There was a light mishap with the shipping (bad weather delayed its arrival by a few days but it arrived before Christmas so it was fine) but the item was exactly what I ordered. I loved the fact that this has titanium plates and was 1.75" plates - 3/4" larger than the Chi we had. I also liked that it had a temperature control so you could select what setting you want because I have very fine hair and didn't want to scorch my hair if I needed to use this iron. She was really hesitant and was set on getting a Chi so I told her to go upstairs and just try it out to see. She came down maybe 20 minutes later with the softest, silkiest and STRAIGHTEST hair I've ever seen her with. She said that she LOVED it and it was so easy to use and FAST... literally ONE PASS with each section of hair. Granted, she used the hottest setting but her hair was super shiny and soft. I used the iron later the same day and set the temp on 375 and it worked like magic on my hair, too! My hair is much more fine but I have quite a bit so it didn't take me longer than 15 minutes to completely straighten my hair. It was PIN straight and I received several comments/compliments from our friends at dinner that night! We both also loved the fact that this iron does NOT grab or pull your hair like the Chi does. I used to get so irritated because no matter how gentle I was, I still ripped out hair after hair using my old Chi and this one didn't pinch or pull at ALL. I cannot recommend this highly enough and I strongly urge you to set your concerns aside and give this product a try. I was a big Chi fan....until I found this! I don't think I will ever purchase another Chi iron again!

Review of Remington S8510 Anti Frizz Therapy 1" and the Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium Plated 1.25" I had read reviews that these were both very good, but with a $100 price difference had to try them both for myself to see. My hair type is fine but lots of it, very thick, and long. It is half straight and half curly. Both: Both have swivel cords, both have the controls on the side of the iron (rather than in between near the hot plates which always seems highly stupid to me), both have screens that show the temp. Neither plates snagged my hair when straightening, they both slid over the strands smoothly. Remington: Heated up in a little over a minute. Ran hotter when set at the same temp as the Babyliss. Straightened pretty well, like a 7 out of 10. Curled/created wave pretty well, like a 7 out of 10. Left my hair staticy. Curls/waves fell out in about 2 minutes without product. Because this is listed as Anti Frizz, I had to mark it down considerably for the static it created in my hair. Babyliss: I could tell right away that the Babyliss was more expensive in the quality of the product itself: it was lighter to lift and had a nicer cord (longer, softer, more flexible), and the plates were slightly longer than the Remington. Heated up in under a minute. Straightened and curled/waved: 10 out of 10. The straightening was faster and straighter. The shape of the plates actually made curls/waves better and easier. The curls/waves stayed in for hours without product. I wanted the cheaper one to be better and save me $100, but the Babyliss was hands down better. The most important part: No static in my hair after using! I live in a very, very dry climate so this is very impressive in an iron and very important for me.

I have had many flat irons over the years. My first was an expensive 2 inch chi which I really liked. Unfortunately after several years it stopped working. The next one was a gift from my husband, a 1nch chi which had no temperature controls and was no match for my curly hair. I passed that one along to my daughter. Next was the Sedu Revolution which again was pretty pricey but I wanted to try another brand. This 1 inch flat iron would straighten my hair but I had to work at it. The edges were squared off which caused my hairs to always get pulled. It got pretty gunky looking after a short time but I continued to use it. About one year from the time I purchased it, I was using it but it wasn't straightening my hair. At first thought it was the Florida humidity until I put my hand on the plates and discovered one side was hot and the other was not heated. Spent a few weeks with curly hair researching another model to get. After many reviews, I got really good vibes about the BaBylissPro Nano 1 3/4 inch so I ordered it. THIS IS THE BEST FLAT IRON I HAVE USED!!!!! I opened the new package at the same time my husband was fixing us a salad for dinner. I had my whole head down at the same time our salad was finished. My husband's words exactly were: "THAT'S AMAZING!" I have had a 1inch (too thin for thick curly hair) the 2 inch which worked but was a bit tricky to manuever and now the 1 3/4 inch. THIS IS THE PERFECT SIZE FOR PEOPLE WITH THICK CURLY HAIR. It is not to small yet not too big. I love the ease of the electronic controls. It heats up very quickly and it has several heat settings. I didn't even need to set it on the highest setting. It glides through my hair nicely without pulling any hairs out which is a nice change of pace. The handle does not get hot but the top plates do get very hot so you have to be careful. All in all this was a win win for me. A GREAT PRICE ON A FLAT IRON THAT DELIVERS!!!!!!!
