I'm not going to lie, I bought this kit thinking it would be a fun, educational activity for my kid. I was right, but what I didn't anticipate was the level of scientific weirdness that would be unleashed. My kid is now obsessed with finding things to look at—dirt, a fly's wing, the goo from under the couch—you name it. The best part is the stain powders. Eosin Red and Methylene Blue are now the most exciting colors in our house. She treats them like mad scientist potions, turning mundane things into vibrant, terrifying specimens. We went from "let's look at a leaf" to "what happens if we stain a mosquito leg?" This kit is perfect. It has everything you need to get started, from the blank slides to the tweezers and swabs. I got my package today and the dyes are in powder form as lots of other reviews state. But mine did have a phone number labeled on the bottles so I called it and spoke to someone in customer service pretty quickly and they told me the instructions in their system say to fill the vials 3/4 full with distilled water. I agree not super specific but she also said they have a manual for all their products on their website. I haven’t had a chance to look for this yet but will update if I do.

This is a great starter kit - if you receive the whole kit. The first box I received was missing cover slips and the prepared slides. The replacement box was only missing half of the petri dish, but it is odd that two separate orders had elements missing.
